Dear Q45ers,

I have a 1990 Q45 that I bought in pretty rough condition.

I am doing some maintenance work on the car but the main issue with it is the suspension...It has the active suspension but there is no shock absortion whatsoever. Car bounces for ages after you hit the bump!

Is this system oil actuated or air? I have very limited funds so Im looking for the cheapest solution to getting some damper.

What is the best way about this? The system was mangled already, missing fittings and lines...So the only solution is taking it all out and using a simple solution for it.

Can I use oil or air in the shocks to get a reasonable damping to get around?

Thanks!

:welcome: to NICO!

You cheapest option is to find a donor car with a standard suspension, and use it's springs and shock absorbers. As far as I know there's no way of filling the existing A dampers with oil or air to help with your bottomed-out ride. The usual conversion is to loop the input and output lines on the suspension half of the dual power steering/active pump.

So I have to find an infinity Q45 with a passive suspension and use it.

What year model should I look for?

Thanks for your help!

90-93 are compatible for sure. I think the rears off of a 94-96 will also work, but there's a difference in the fronts? Not totally sure on that.

Ok I took my 96 w/ conventional suspension in to get an alignment from a competent shop. I was told that due to the corrosion(it's an upstate NY car) that he didn't want to apply too much pressure to adjust fearing something may break. He brought it back as close to specs as he could but it still wanders to the right. I will upload the specs on before & after alignment here. I want to get it back to factory specs & maybe the seasoned heads here will be able to tell me which parts to replace.

Edit : It handled perfect prior to an encounter with a ditch whilest backing up lol. I replaced the passenger side front control arm & tie rods when that happened last year.

I was in the same situation but I "luckily" found a private donor and took everything I could get off.

Only option I have is a 1992 Q donor, not sure if they're compatible, If not I think I just may want to go new so I'm thinking control arms, tie rods & what else ?!

I have 91 q45 coil overs from D2 racing Drag style, very nice ride, soft when you want it, responsive and tight when "racing"..

$700 shipped

Let me know if you are interested. I am going back to stock before I sell the Q

I'm gonna be pulling the active suspension from my 1991 nissan president in the next couple of weeks because I'm going to coils.

All active components work well (no excessive rebound, very smooth) but the rears do have a slight leak. I'm not sure if the leak is coming from the coils, one of the active suspension lines or what, but I do know that the rears (and maybe the fronts?) would benefit from new dust boots.

Like I said, fronts function perfectly. Rears have a slight leak but still function perfectly. Send me a PM if you're interested in them
