With my wife taking a job here in Omaha, I've been making the trip back-and-forth from Denver several times. This winter, I've particularly noticed the difficulty in keeping Project G37xS decently clean. While the snow hasn't been as bad as last year's legendary dumps, the humid climate here really keeps it around.

After cleaning and detailing the Infiniti last week, you wouldn't even think I touched it. White streaks (they use a lot of salt on the roads here) on both flanks and crusty road grime cakes the lower half of the G. In Colorado, we're used to melting snow and getting a few days of clear roads for cars stay relatively clean. Not the case here in the great Midwest.

I think I'll try using Optimum No-rinse next time, but once again, the humidity and temperature becomes key factors. The stuff will freeze in no time, so even wiping it down or drying in an open area becomes impossible. The Blackfire polish and protectant (two coats) I put on last fall did a great job, but this is far more challenging an environment than I am used to. I know we have some midwestern residents here on NICO, perhaps you can give me a few ideas of what else to do?

Only thing I could think of would be to detail it in a shop/garage that's warmer than outside. Most midwesterners leave their nice cars in the garage and don't even bother washing the winter beaters.

Thanks for the advice, Ace2cool. Since I don't have the option of buying a winter beater for Omaha, we'll see how the scratchshield paint holds up once the slop stops! The ATTESSA AWD system and the rest of the Infiniti safety systems have done a nice job of keeping the car on the road, so at least my wife is safe this winter.

Without many tools or garage, the only thing supercharged is ME traveling back-and-forth between cities! LOL There'll be an update on Project G37xS in the upcoming issue #21, due in December. It'll focus on how to get the most out of the maintenance work that must be done, and low cost mods.

Hmmm...

Low cost mods and G37 don't seem to go together very well :)

Low cost can still mean high quality, if picked wisely. :) You can read the article and take me to task if you think otherwise. :nono:

lol. I meant that mods for the G are usually expensive, not that lower cost ones are "cheap" ;)

I'll surely check it out.

Any updates on your G37xS project car? Not much really left for me to do on mine other than a tune and better rotors and brake fluid....Going much further makes it less useful as a DD.

The only mod worth talking about is a set of front akebono four pot calipers and 14" rotors that were recently installed on Project G37xS. Purchased from a 370Z owner who upgraded to an AP setup, they fit beautifully with the OEM wheels. Also upgraded the brake fluid to ATE Gold 200 brake fluid, and this BBK is really easy to modulate with the OEM brake master.

I agree that the typical mods--lowering the car, modding the engine, exterior bodykit--detract from the function and reliability of being a DD. Infiniti already maximized many features on the G and its done so well, I'd rather not deviate too far. Sometimes, less is more, to the educated Nissan enthusiast.

I meant getting more aggressive with performance by going to TT or SC. The only negative aspect I have with the car is how stiff the suspension is via the coilovers.

Since this is my wife's car, it wouldn't make much sense to go any further with TT or SC. It would just scare her!

I've considered my suspension options, but elected to stay with the OEM settings for now. Biased towards street use for now, but I'll look for the right set of adjustable swaybars for the future...

My wife won't let me do much to her '07 G35s either. When I installed my 19" sport rims on there I didn't ask ;)

She loves driving the coupe although it's far stiffer than the sedan. Of course she does not have to take big road trips in it like I do.
