This is one of the wheels:

As I received them, nice and dirty:

After a good cleaning:

The same wheel with the Bondo work:

After two rounds of Bondo, sanding with 400 & 1000 grit, 2 coats of primer, another sanding with 1000 grit, and the first coat of "satin" black paint:

Put more coats than you think you need. And at least 4-5 coats of clear. I didn't put enough on my old wheels when I painted them.

Progress so far:

Four levels of progress. Closest is cleaned and has bondo work, second is painted on the back and ready for primer on the face, the third is finished with primer, and the last is painted and has 3 coats of clear on it.

Last one up close. I want to do 2 more clear coats still.

It'll be about 40 hours invested to the wheels when I'm done. But, to have a fresh set in the color I wanted, it's worth the $425 and 40 hours of my time. I'd do it again if I found a set for cheap enough.

man, those are coming out nice, are you painting the center caps to match? I kinda think they would look good left silver.with the large spaces between spokes you should paint your calipers and add a brake decal, back when I had a 350z I painted my calipers gloss black with a G2 high temp. paint kit(come in lots of colors)then I added the Nissan brake decal(you can get in lots of colors) I used metallic silver here, it would add a little pop to your new rims. Here is a pic. of the ones I did, when I traded it in on a G35 the dealer took these great pics so I saved them.Image

I already painted the center caps to match and left the chrome shiny. I will keep the calipers for another day, like when I change the pads in the future.

Not yet. I haven't had any time to work on them since I took the pictures a couple weeks ago. I don't have tires yet either. Maybe tomorrow.

Yes, and they look great. I'm not sure what I want to do yet. I'm not sure if red calipers with black wheels is what I want to do or leave them silver.

Red or blue would look great! It would definitely 'pop' out beneath the black rims. You could always get silver "nissan" caliper decals to go over top. Either way, the car will look awesome with the new wheels!

i think they would fit. You may need 5mm spacers like the 1.8's too.

I entered the project of refinishing them into the Dupli-Color Restoration Challenge. Let's hope I can win the $1,000 top prize.

Already has 1.5" drop on Tanabes. Any lower and the roads here will destroy the car.

Well, still deciding...

Definite plans:
1. Finally enjoy the car for the rest of the year. I've been planning the car for a LONG time (over a year now) and finally have stage 1 done.
2. Clean the garage of OEM parts. I have $9 left of my original Stage 1 budget. I need to sell the take-off parts and get some Stage 2 budget together.
3. Go take some pictures in fun locations. Trying to get the car as the focal point of the 2011 NISMO catalog (Versa/Tiida section). Trying to get it in the Micro Image calendar also. Need to get it to a few of the magazines too. BlindSnyper can't be the only celebrity among us.

Future Ideas:
1. I am considering finding another OEM hood and painting it satin black like the wheels and do some NISMO treatment to it. Codelicious says wrap it instead of paint, so I'm weighing my options.
2. Maybe audio. I have a 6-disc from a Titan in my garage that I may swap in there for something fun. Have to swap the wires around and get an antenna adaptor.
3. Windshield tint strip. Simple, yes. But I never did it when I had the windows done.

Whatcha have to suggest? Not jumping on the S/C kit bandwagon just yet. Has to be different and original.
