So currently I am running a Windows Home Server, VAIL refresh to be exact. I bought a Compaq on Craigslist and upgraded a few things in order to run VAIL. Specs as follows:

Intel Pentium 4 521 2.8GHz Single Core 64-Bit LGA775
- 800MHz FSB
- 1MB L2
2GB DDR2 800 Ram
WD Green 1TB
Hitachi 500GB
Gigabit Ethernet

It currently is housed in the stock case and I really would like to convert it to a Mini-ITX form factor. The basis of this topic resides on questions about the compatibility of the P4 with newer LGA775 motherboards. I would like to use the P4 for the time being and upgrade in 6 months or so. I have been looking into purchasing the Intel BOXDG41MJ LGA 775 Intel G41 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813121381

Does any know if a P4 is compatible with a newer chipset? (Intel G41 in this case). I would imagine it would work, but would like some input if possible. Thanks!

According to the specs with the motherboard and with what I read on the processor, you shouldn't really have any problems with it. I think the only problem you may face with something like that is slight stability issues, but I don't think that should be a problem (any issues would very very unlikely).

The way I see it, if you're going to spend 75 bucks on a board, why not go another 50 for a dual core? But that's just me.

(:

I do not believe that the P4 is compatible with a new LGA 775 board...you would have to find an older one with a compatablie chipset, as the P4 wasn't designed to work with the G41 chipset...IIRC it was the 935 or something...

Why not just go with an Intel Atom/mobo combo? Things are like 80 bucks and will trump the p4 AND save power.

Yeah now I am actually looking into a Mini-ITX board with a dual-core Atom. Think I may go with the Foxconn D52S Intel Atom D525 (dual-core, 1.8GHz) BGA559 Intel NM10 Mini ITX Motherboard/CPU Combo.
