While not as simple as changing a switch, its not incredibly difficult if you can comfortably cut and splice wires and read simple wiring schematics. However, your wife may have a heart attack if she sees how much you have to dismantle to complete the install. Pulling off all the interior door panels on a car, no matter how old, causes some people to freak out.
Typically, the biggest problem with removing door panels is breaking the retaining clips (or loosing some of them). If the missing or broken clips are not replaced the door panels may not sit flush, or worse... rattle and buzz as you travel down the highway..

If you think the project might be more than you want to tackle, most car alarm shops will install the kit for around $200. However, for not much more these same alarm shops will install an alarm system (e.g., Audiovox, Bulldog, Viper) which typically includes the auto window functions as well as other trick items like remote start etc. Let us know what you end up deciding...
