Power steering on a 350 swap

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

The easiest solution is just to go to manual steering. For that there are 3 solutions I can think of:1. Buy a manual rack and put it in (big PITA and expensive).2. Loop the hydraulic line (easy and free).3. Have a steering rack shop rebuild the rack and convert it to manual (best option IMHO, $100 and includes a rack rebuild).

Or if you must have power steering you could:1. Use the stock GM power steering pump and have a hydraulic shop make new lines for you.2. Use an electric power steering pump from a car like the 2nd Gen MR2, and then have a hydraulic shop make new lines for you (you could put the pump anywhere).

One more thing, if I remember correctly the clearance between the power steering fittings and the rack is REALLY tight so I would put power steering on your 'would be nice list' and see where you're at after you get the headers on and the car running.

I had my lines made at a hydrolic shop locally. I think they are good for 600PSI to, but all I did was dring them some old lines for the nissan and the chevy and then made them.

Im thinking of eather doing a ca18det or a 350. I already have the 350 and around here it would be different then any other car, But the CA18 just blots right in. I just trying to figure out the pros and cons of the each swap. On the 350 swap, how did the shifter line up?

If it's like a truck tranny it's WAY off and you would need to make a custom shifter. If it's like the camaro (most likely) you have to widen the shifter hole a little bit, then cut a plate and weld it in to fill it back up. If you can handle making the mounts this is a breeze!

Yeah we need to know what tranny is. Hurst is probably your shifter.....

If its stick you probably a Muncie M which there are a few models of. And it is of that era. They were very short, and small when disconnected from the bell housing. And they did come with a factory Hurst shifter. I also checked online and they say the muncie was paired with the 350CI motor but the M22 rock crusher was on the 454 so I am confused as to what it is.

You could also have a Borg Worner, possibly a T10, im not sure. You should find out what tranny it is.

But is it the original engine and trans and is it a two door, if so clean it up as best as you can and sell that car.

People buy them things in any shape....... you should try to sell it maybe. The engine and trans set is probably not the best, not a lot of power. You could pick up a used 350 for cheap with a trans. But are you aware of the oil pan fitment issues with a Gen1 in a S13/14?

I think you could get 1500-3000 if you get the right person. yeah the quarters are shot, but if the foundation is good that all that matters

The frame is rusted, everything you can think of is rusted. The engine runs and its strong and the trans shifts very smoothly.

I still cant tell the trans type, hmm well pull the motor and trans and then hit it from there. You may want another trans once you find out what you have but I suggest freshening the motor up. Cleaning, gaskets, push rods, and rockers, upgrade the intake, ignition and carb. But the engine is free.... but making it work is a task. Your gotta make your own oil pan, or go dry sump.

How much do you want to spend?

Dude you need to sell the 240 and and use the money to restore the chevelle!! You'll have alot more in the end. Cant really tell from the pics but it looks like its only surface rust on the quarters. The car doesnt look to bad to me at all. My 68 mustang is prob in worse shape than that and still very very restoreable.

Power steering is the easiest thing to keep if you're talking about a 240.

Like it's been stated...a hydraulic shop can join the ends or you can buy the fittings from Summit or JEG'S and make your own line from teflon lined stainless steel braided hose. Although some say it should not be used because it can collapse under vacuum, I've used it for a year with no ill effects.

I have a question for you. What are you using for your motor mounts for the 350? MAking your own or did you buy them if so from where? Thanks
