Great idea. I wonder if one could do with getting mirrors from a Lexus LS460 or a Mercedes that might also fit on an M with a little modification, then also get the little dash switch from those cars and simply wire and install the switch into our existing set-up?
If you did that, you would also get turn signals on your mirrors as a bonus and those leads can be wired into the existing fender turn signals.
Sounds simple enough, though sometimes things seem simple till you're half way through and find yourself sat there with no way to move forward. I am one who gets nervy about tearing down doors and such so this would not be happening in my garage, LOL. I just fold mine inward by hand.

Yeah, except when it comes to that whole DIY stuff, im not one for it lol. Yeah i just ordered some LED signal mirror covers so whatever i do has to be with those (gotta make it work) yeah unfortunately we gotta push it in ourselves (which aint sexy) lol but nothing is worst than having the right mirror pushed in and having to stretch across the entire car to push it out

Related to this, does anyone know if there is a way to make both mirrors tilt down in reverse? I parallel park a lot and always forget to hit the switch.

I agree with Lars, that sort of stuff is generally available on more expensive cars.

Dont think u can make them both go down... Only way i can see you doing that is by setting the second memory function with the mirrors down. A buddy of mine has a 09 maxima and they both go down when he throws it in reverse, i was kinda jealous

I couldn't agree more JMichael. But ... if they are available on the Maxima, that may be the place to look for a mirror that might also fit an M as well as a switch that will match our dash design. I'm still fine folding mine by hand and I only do that when I use the car parks at the mall.

As for making BOTH mirrors tilt down .... There was a rather heated debate about this in an earlier thread with one member reporting both of his tilt down and that instructions are in the manual and the rest of the members saying it isn't in the manual. The member who claimed both mirrors tilted never responded to requests for proof or instructions about how he accomplished it, so seems that isn't possible on any other M aside for the one owned by that member. (yah, right)
My manual specifically states I can choose WHICH mirror tilts, no option to make BOTH tilt. My service guy at the Infiniti dealer also said it's R or L mirror, not both.

Yep, I imagine it would require a hack. I can see how it is important to be aware of traffic from the rear, but it would be super convenient if they both went down. The switch is pretty hard to find without looking straight at it.

If I'm not mistaken, http://www.kptechnologies.com makes something that has to be wired into the car and allow both mirrors to tilt down at the same time. I usually just need one side to tilt down and I can use that in conjunction with the camera and I'm usually fine.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out. I just park like 3x a day on different sides of the street, so it would be convenient.

Sorry, built2makeit, for hijacking your thread!

My '04 Maxima had folding mirrors and heated steering wheel.
I thought something like that would be standard on the Infiniti flagship.
