Just want to query the membership on the fuel/injector cleaner(s) used my the membership. I have used Chevron Techron Concentrate Plus previously in serveral Maxima's I've owned and use it in the wife's 02' Pathy. I've owned the M35X not quite a year and while i used nothing but 93 Octane I'm thinking about using a cleaner ever 3000 miles. Appreciate your responses.

The Techron is the only fuel system cleaner out there that has the PEA additive that can effective clean carbon without leaving a residue.

I don't know if I'd go as far as a bottle every 3K mi but it also depends on what quality of fuel - not octane. Use Tier 1 gas stations only and you should not have to use the techron that often, and if you fill up at chevron then you shouldnt need it at all.

Might want to check out the Redline SI-1 injector cleaner, works wonders in my 246,000 mile old Q45,and LOADED with PEA.......check out the MSDS on http://www.redlineoil.com

I may switch to this, I have started using BG44k, it has helped with the oil consumption issue very well.

I had read some time ago that Redline used to have the PEA additive but dropped it in the latest MSDS - now that I take the time to read it from their site it is showing 30 - 50% PolyEther Amine (PEA)

Techrons MSDS says about the same but it does contain more additives - wether that is goo or bad I don't know.

Cant go wrong with Redline though - how many gallons does one bottle treat? The website says 1 bottel per tank which leaves me ????

The above statement makes absolutely NO sense......explain how you think a fuel additive has any effect on oil consumption?????

It was the BG44 that dropped PEA and is now basically worthless. not the Redline product. The 15 oz bottle of redline cleaner is added to a full tank of fuel for a complete cleanup, used periodically- or you can add 3oz every fillup{per 20 gallons of gas} as a ongoing maintenance dose to keep things clean. I got a case of 12 bottles for $60 delivered from amazon awhile ago- it is considerably more expensive now- works wonderful,as my 246K old injectors have never needed any other servicing or cleaning beyond the Redline product

I'm not really sure why it works, I'm no tech. But I was burning through a quarter every 1k miles, I added the bgk and have been burning about half that....

This may be the reason:Carbon (a by-product of engines) can build up in the PCV system, clogging the breathing passages. This, in turn, pressurizes the oil pan and pushes oil up into the fuel delivery system, where it is fed into the engine and burned.

by cleaning out the fuel delivery system less oil may be burned I would guess...

I Used this crap http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST...r.jsp. I say crap because I didn't notice anything different after.

On another note would you guys recommend taking the TB off and do a proper manual cleaning of the air intake etc? What about removing the top plenum and clean that inside as well? Would I have to replace any gaskets or are they reusable?

Thanks,M

Hey, I'm a new owner of a 2007 Infiniti M35x, I just got the car from a local Infiniti dealership as a certified pre-owned with 42k miles on it and the car is like new and I really do love it, but I was wondering if it's safe to use a good quality fuel system cleaner such as Chevron Techron in these cars? There's nothing really wrong with the car or anything like that but I normally use the Chevron fuel system cleaner in my cars every 5k miles or so just as a normal routine maintenance practice, prior to the M35x I had a 2002 Acura 3.2TL and I would throw in a bottle of Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner in the tank every 5k miles or so and I did notice an improvement in gas mileage and performance and I never had any problems from using it either, however I was told that Nissan/Infiniti does NOT recommend the use of fuel additives in some of their vehicles. Is there any truth to this? Thank you.

You can put some in, I use Gumout regularly and noticed it was better than Lucas.

Ok thanks, so is that whole thing about Nissan/Infiniti advising against the use of fuel additives just a rumor or what?

its not a rumor, it says it in the manual if i remember correctly. I think every car says to not use fuel additives/cleaners.

I use Gumout or Chevron every 5k or so. No problems on my Maxima or this car.

I also Seafoam every 15k or so. Both intake manifold and through the gas. And I put an oz or two in the oil each oil change to keep it clean.

Yeah I just read in my owner's manual the part where it says that they advise against using any fuel additives because some of them contain powerful solvent cleaners that can damage the engine and/or fuel system? I've owned an Acura and a Saturn before and neither of them ever said anything like that in their manuals. Is there any truth to this or is it just a scheme set up by Nissan/Infiniti so that the dealerships can make more money when the fuel injectors and fuel system get really dirty and gunked up and you have to bring it to them to have the system professionally flushed out and cleaned, or what? I really love my M35x alot and I don't wanna risk doing anything to the car that could do any damage and/or void my 10 year/100k mile certified pre-owned warranty...

You'll be fine. I've had 2 Nissan's before this and never had a problem. If anything, it helped.

Ok, thanks for the info. I think if I stick with Chevron Techron fuel-system cleaner which I've used with good results for many years now then I should be fine. Supposedly Chevron Techron is one of the safest and most effective fuel-system cleaners out there so I guess it has to be good stuff.

On a side-note, even though the EPA mileage rating for my 2007 M35x is just 16 city and 22 highway, I've been averaging higher than that as my real-world driving fuel economy. Granted I don't drive the car excessively hard, I've always had a relatively moderate foot, but I've been averaging about 18 mpg in normal around-town driving and I've been averaging around 23-24 mpg on the highway at a steady 65-70 mph cruising speed. The highway mileage is still somewhat less than what I'm used to getting as the other cars I've owned over the last 5 years or so have had taller less-aggressive gearing which was better for highway fuel economy but worse for overall acceleration and performance. My 2002 3.2TL had TWO overdrive gears and even though the final drive ratio was a VERY short 4.429 the 5th gear was a ridiculously tall 0.471. Hell, even the 4th gear was 0.653! The car's gearing was very unorthodox to say the least and although highway gas mileage was above average the car had very weak power/acceleration after 3rd gear which my M35x definitely doesn't have an issue with, however the somewhat higher highway cruising rpms in the M35x did take a little getting used to at first, but now I am totally adjusted to it and I actually kind of like how the car doesn't lug at highway cruise and it always has plenty of passing power on tap at virtually any speed which my TL seriously lacked due to the excessively tall/wide gearing. Has anyone else gotten better average gas mileage than the EPA numbers suggest in their M35?
