Plastic cover above passenger visor?

Postby GapRunr » Mon Aug 10, 2009 4:40 am

If I fold down the passenger sun visor, there is a small plastic cap in the headliner. Does anyone know what this is for? I'm wondering if it is for connecting either the OEM microphone or perhaps the connector for the self dimming rear view mirror?

I took mine off to see what was under there and it has a wire connection underneath there. If I remember correctly there was only 2 wires in the connector and it was white so it isnt airbag related. My guess is that it has to do with the dome light. I may unplug it to see what it does.

There are 3 wires. One is ground, one is always hot, one is the trigger for the "door" setting on the dome light (i think there is a 30 second delay after you close the door before the dome light, and this wire, go off).

I tapped into the door wire and ran it down the A pillar and put a couple of white LED lights (one by the drivers feet, one pointing at the cup holders) so that there is some light other than the dome light, when the doors open. I may add more lights later, but ran out of time.

Hey Guys,

Did some wire tracing today, and have worked out how to get LED's, Kick Plates etc to work off of the door switches.

If you take off the pillar cover on the front right side, there is three wires that run down this pillar. If you trace these back, they end up going to the plastic cover under the right sun visor, where they change wiring colors, and head over to the dome light.

What I did, was wire tap the yellow and light blue wires here and run them to LED strips in the footwell's, they work great, and even satisfy Law's here in Australia where you cant have anything like this on whilst driving, as they only work when a door is physically open, no manual override.

Hope this helps out!
