So a few months ago I decided I was going to plasti dip my entire car. I have been on the plasti dip forum and been interested for almost a year and finally took the plunge last weekend and did the entire car. I put my wheels back on and added some caliper covers to complete my picture in my head, LOL. I think it came out good. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Now onto the pics

The finish looks nice and even. I'm not a fan of full-body PlastiDip, but you did a great job. I've been doing some PlatiDip on my grille with different designs looking for a unique balance of chrome and black. I love that I can come up with a plan, do the PlastiDip, and then simply peel it back off if I decide to try a different design. My latest idea is to do the grille bars, but leave the little nipple-like chrome buttons untouched. I also want to try the whole grille in black, then do the nipples in gunmetal. I'll post pics when I decide how it will stay, LOL.

Question: what was the original colour? and how many coats did it take to get the finish so even?

the original color was dark slate gray or blue slate gray, something like that....and I used 2 1/2 gallons of dip and basically went around the car about 8 times total with the spray gun. The roof seems a little ruff compared with everything else but the beauty of dip is that I can just reapply more dip and smooth out the finish.

Turned out nice! Did you buy the kit that comes with a spray gun? Any tips to how you applied it?

I've seen white Ms with black PlatiDip on the roof. Sort of an off-spring to the Mercedes E class roof. Looks really fab. I especially like how you left the infiniti letters chrome on the rear trunk. Nice touch !

Yes, I did buy the whole kit with 4 gallons, only used 2 1/2 though, it was like $400 shipped from dipyourcar. I applied it kinda using the same techniques shown in some of the dipyourcar videos on youtube which was about 6-7 inches away from the car and doing one section at a time. First time ever dipping and first time using a spray gun. I think it turned out pretty good.

Thanks, yeah, they are 22's on there. Rubberbands for tires but I drive slow so I'll be alright, LOL.

i thought about buying the kit as well....but i ended up finding a place that will do it for $500...i know its easy to apply but EVERY time i was plasti dipping something some magical leaf falls or some odd looking bug would land on it...lol....they atlease giving a 6 month warranty....almost makes me want to dip mine in white :yesnod

Sounds like a good deal if you ask me. Yeah, I know about the debris falling and such. I think honestly the only reason to buy the whole car kit is if you expect to do another dip sometime down the future. I know for me that was the plan so the spray gun will be put to use for me, but the quote you were given is def a good price.

Have you seen the new shade? It's called Koi Orange and I think that would look great on your M with a black roof.

That orange is a little too much for me, LOL....it looks good but IDK about doing that one. I think I'm gonna keep the black for awhile....maybe orange next year, LOL.

Same color I was thinking until I heard of some of the issues with plastidip. Only thought is that there's too few of accents now. Would look better with sport headlights, non-black rims, and leaving some of the trim undipped. just my preference. looks good otherwise though.

looks nice. Question, maybe i havent looked enough, but i swear i cant find any plasti dipped paint jobs with a glossy finish. Someone here plasti dipped the rims, then hit them with a gloss clear of spray paint. I bought the plasti dip clear, but it dipalmost nothing to increase shine on my black dipped rims. I seen some rims that were sprayed with black , then a few coats of Plasti Dip Glossifier. Did not get glossy neither. Anyone know, id be so down to dip my car white, if it could have a glossy finish. :ohno:

FINIKM35,
i checked out that youtube link of the white glossified m35. It looks even, but the finish never comes out smooth like glass. But for $500 i think it might be cool. The good part of plasti dipped being glossified is its easier to clean, then the flat finish. I read in the comments it cant b shipped to california.

FinikM35:

You need to let the Plasti-Dip set and cure for a few days BEFORE washing - but after that, you can even use a pressure wash, etc. You can also apply speed shines and detail sprays over it as well. However - the finish will always have a 'matte' appearance. Even after applying Plasti Dip Glossifier, it will have a shine but its a shiny 'matte' finish.

I recommend that you purchase your products from Dip Your Car . I know Fonzie and he has videos on his YouTube channel and his website. He answers just about any question and unfounded claim in the videos and does great tutorials on applying, washing, etc. Here is his website: http://www.dipyourcar.com
Even if you buy it elsewhare, his site is a great reference.

I feel I should also add that everyone has opinions or 'hears' things - so be careful which videos you watch and who you listen to. This is a great product and completely dependable - but some peeps don't use it or apply it properly and after they fail with it, they tell others 'It doesn't work , It doesn't last", etc. Just stick to the professional sites and avoid the old 'heard it from someone who knew a bloke who has a sister who dated a guy that once met the guy who's uncle has a dear friend who had a bad experience. LOL

Looks sick, whats the advantage of doing this vs wrapping the car in vynil matte black or any other color of your choice, I think it looks the same and it would cost less. Over all props on doing the job your self and it really looks nice. Enjoy

Plasti-Dip is way cheaper than wrapping.

Well I have seen vinyl wrap up close and obviously I have seen the dip up close.....My 2 cents on the differences....Vinyl is going to be smoother and there will be no imperfections in the light...I have imperfections but apparently I'm the only one that see's them. The surface of a matte plasti dip is a little rough, not bad but it has a texture.....The front/rear end of the car I.E. bumpers look better with dip (depending on the vehicle). I only say that because with such complex curves on the front and rear that vinyl can be hard to work with...I use to have a chrysler 300c and was going to get the entire car vinyl'd (before I knew about dip) and opted not to when I seen the front end of the car (they told me it would be trouble) while they were applying it...and Cost is hands down plasti dip...The cost for my 300c was going to be $3100 for the entire car, ended up only going racing stripes and it was $425. Dip cost me $403 for the entire car kit with 4 gallons of dip and the pre dip spray......I still have a gallon left over and it was a fun experience doing it myself....plus I have a few friends that like the product so much that they want me to help them with their dip and that means a few extra dollars in my pocket, LOL. I can dig it.
