So, I have question. I have a redtop SR I'm in the process of rebuilding. The block is at the shop right now and they took some measurements for me today to see if I needed to bore the cylinders out. The measurement they got were-
Pistons (Grade 2) - 86.0044mm
Cylinders (Grade 2) - 86.0552mm
Giving me a clearance of .0508mm

The factory specifies that clearance should not exceed .010-.030mm which mine does by .0208mm or .0008in.
My question is would this really hurt me? As long as my piston rings are gapped correctly, it shouldn't really effect performance right?

If you put that motor back together like that, the piston will scuff the cylinder walls and yes..... Make you loose performance due to the rings not being able to seat properly.... Better yet, possibly cause the piston to jackknife in the cylinder destroying the block. Choice is yours.

not to that extreem but it will cause some piston slap and if you not leaving her stock and planning to get some power out of her, do it right..for a few bucks you can get a set of pistons and bore the block out..

Yes to that extreme. I had a honda jackknife a piston at idle! I checked the other cylinders and all where consistently .003 over. Motor was toast.
