PEZi720's 2010 Autocross Thread... NICO's Autocross Truck

Postby PEZi » Tue Mar 30, 2010 6:46 pm

Figured I'd post up the Autocross truck for 2010. It has come a long way since I first started racing it, and is now starting to become competitive in class EP. For 2010, the goals are to take the local trophy for EP and save up enough money to make it to nationals in Lincoln where I'd like to place mid-field. For the full season running EP in a truck, that would be more than ideal. Now, of course, I just have to make it to Lincoln... and hopefully have a fresh set of rubber by then as the new A6's I have will probably be toast by then.

Next Event: Sunday Oct. 17th @ Pike's Peak International Raceway in Fountain, CO.

Looks great Pez!

The pink numbers and white wheels go well with the truck.

I expect it to continue on the path of epic win!

Thats bad a**. Love pic 4. She really sounds as though she's struggling low down. Can you do things like shave the head? I hope these wheels don't hurt the front end tho.

It's too bad you're not out here in DC, you could clean up in EP. I ran through the class with the Corolla today and this is with very poor gearing for national style courses.

You're going to be back to being the only EP person on the board at the end of the season. I'm building the Corolla into FSP this winter. I've already ordered new rear spring perches, as I have to utilize the stock spring locations in the SP class.

Well the FSP index will treat you well. I'd love to be able to bring the truck back to FSP but it just isn't something I see as possible at this point.

Yea, it's not going to be easy with the Corolla, but the cost will be a lot less than trying to build a competitive E Prep car. Dropping cash on crappy Rolla interior sucks but I lucked out and found a good amount available with folks willing to ship.

yeah... a lot of people want me to move into FSP because the truck is actually extremely competitive with the FSP index... the problem is that when put back into FSP trim, a lot of the performance i have goes down the drain... and its no longer competitive... i'd rather keep going with EP even if it takes 10 years to throw all the money into that it will need to be competitive

buckle up....

Well, it was great finally getting the truck back out to an event. It ran great and it was a fun course, but because of rain that came in the 3rd heat thus causing the cancellation of the remainder of the event, no points were rewarded for the weekend. It was basically just a fun day.

Next event will be later in the month, and its the Rocky Mountain Divisional!

How bad was the rain? Luckily at FedEx, it's VERY hilly, so there is almost no chance of standing water. We've run through some bad weather from time to time.

It got pretty bad.... the wind was the biggest problem though. One car was damaged by a runaway trash dumpster, a porta-potty tipped over... and cones went flying everywhere. There were no cone outlines left to re-set the course... so they called it considering 1) the whole thing needed to be re-done and 2) the course wouldn't be the same, thus odd times.

This last weekend went decently well... relatively speaking. I did testing at the PPIR site on Friday and got within the distance I wanted to from some of the national champs. Obviously I know that until the truck is built decently, there is no getting near the times they run but I was able to pull some respectable times. Saturday however was a different story. I lost over 3 seconds compared to what I ran in respect to them. The course just did not suit the truck at all. It was what might be described as a "corvette" course... designed by a corvette owner of course  .

I still managed to pull 3rd in class of 5 entrants. The 2 national trophy winners, Chris Dorsey and his co driver, Kevin Wenzel, both driving the AE86 Corolla of doom were the only people ahead of me. The Honda CRX and Volvo entrants were over 4 seconds back of me. This was a 2 day event however... so after placing 3rd in the first day, I'd give up my position on Sunday because I had previously scheduled plans that kept me from running.

Here's a pic I snapped with my cell phone of the truck in its current state though.

Looking at the results now.

John Vitamvas (SS winner) is from my region. Nice to see him representing nation wide.

LMFAO @ H Stock winner being a Golf TDI on Falkens none the less, OUCH. If I'd have known that, I'd have flown there and rented a car from national that could fit in H-Stock with a bolt pattern for one of my sets of R-Comps.

No FFR's in XP? That's nuts! Someone could have cleaned up shop in one.

Sucks you couldn't run in day 2 =/ They had to DNF you cause of that.

dude... Bob Tunnell is NOT slow... the last time he showed up in our region, he cleaned up shop by over 30 points in PAX. Dorsey's *new* setup was enough to overtake not only PAX but raw times on Tunnell.... the AE86 is becoming ridiculous.

Ah, not saying he's slow in the least, I've seen the name nationally quite a bit so there is no doubt he's fast, as is Patty. It's just weird not seeing a single Factory Five in XP, a class that's dominated by Cobra's on the east coast.
