I've been wrestling with my 2002 pathfinder for months now on and off trying to get rid of this damn code. From what I know it's a large/gross EVAP system leak. So far I have:

1.) Replaced Gas Cap with OEM Replacement
2.) Replaced Vapor Canister Purge Valve
3.) Replaced Vapor Canistrer
4.) Blow out EVAP lines with compressed air
5.) Reset code several times
6.) Inspected what I could of lines for cracks
7.) Inspected filler neck of gas tank

And it has always come back after reset. Usually takes about 60-90 miles of driving for it to come back. Does anyone have any advice as to other possible culprits?

Any help VERY appreciated.

I ran into all sorts of issues with my evap system so I understand your frustration.

Anychance the fuel pump seal has been messed with? The 80-90 mile is part of
The ODB system and you can shorten it by driving in very specific ways. My 1997 takes almost200 miles to complete a cycle.

Was there carbon in your lines when you cleared them out?

Have you considered the pressure senors?

Fuel pump seal never touched, never been working around it at all.

No carbon came out when I blew the lines out.

No I havent. Where are those sensors and any way to test them?

So many of the posts I read about the issue said vapor canister and valve, was hopeful that would have fixed it, but nope :( Trying hard to avoid professional help

I have the same intermittent code. After some research I found it could be the vent control valve that's bolted to the carbon canister. You may try pulling it and making sure the plunger goes up and down, and maybe give it a shot of WD-40.

MY VCV plunger was fine, so I bolted it all back and I drove it for a couple of days. When I whet WOT on the interstate, the CEL popped back on. Now it's parked and it's going in the garagge this weekend. I haven't blown out my vac lines like you did, so I'll try that first.

I already replaced the vcv and carbon canister with new ones with no luck. I looked at fuel pump seal but can't determine if it needs replacement. Not sure what to look at next.

Have you checked the fuel filter? Maybe it is leaking or the hoses are damaged.

Okay the evap system is meant to trap gas vapors into charcoal and when the engine is under load it will route fresh air though the charcoal and into the intake.

The compute knows it is working correctly or not by pressure sensors. My 1997 has two.. One is above the charcoal canister, the other is in the mess of tubes under the hood on the drivers side.

Yours will have the one right above the canistrer as I saw them when I was at the junkyard. Under the hood changed after 1997 and I am notas familiar but then even created a vacume test point under the hoood on later models.

Update: replaced the fuel pressure sensor as well and still hasn't fixed it. I also replaced the fuel filter as part of general maintenance. No idea where to go from here! :bash:

I've had this problem and was able to fix it on my '97 Pathfinder. I replaced the canister and vent control valve. That's only half of the job. Under the hood, the purge control valve and purge volume control valve were filled with carbon, which needed to be taken apart and blown out. I didn't mess with the lines beyond these valves.
Not all the carbon gets blown out. It gets jammed in the lines. I had to close it all up and drive a few miles to build up the vacuum pressure, which moves the carbon through the lines. I did this about 10 times, until I didn't see carbon getting blown out.
Someone had a nice write-up that I referred to: http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/ ... nd-valves/

Not sure if you've solved this but I've had the same evap code as you for 3 years...found the issue This weekend gassing up...my fender was dripping a small pool of gas as I filled up under my wheel...after inspecting at my work it was my filler neck..found online there may even be a recall/product update depending on where you live...in my case I had to pay..cost me $227 with my discount for the neck and the clamps..pretty easy job and the neck was definitely the cause of my evap...the corrosion is on the insidetop side of the neck right before the fillup spout...anyways figured I'd offer up this to any ppl with the same issues ..
