Ever set out to do something practical and end up with the opposite? :chuckle:

So I left the house to go look at a Frontier at local dealer. I took a quick look at it Friday, but I was meh on it. I decided to go back Saturday morning and see if we could work a deal. The truck sold a few hours before I got there. I'm not surprised, it was well priced, nicely equipped, and in ok shape. So my hunt for a vehicle resumed. I decided to swing by the local BMW dealer, to survey the 3 series market. I met a very knowledgeable salesman and had a chat with him. He pretty much told me I had a better chance of getting struck by lightning than finding the car I wanted in this market. In case you didn't read my other thread I was looking for a decent-to-drive manual sedan that can tow, and the 3 series actually fit the bill. At least he was honest and polite. So since I was on the north side of town I decided to swing by a dealership that another dealer had recommended. He said it was the only place he could think of that kept manuals on the lot. I was not ready.

I told them my price range, what I was looking for and as we were going back to look at a 101k mil 3 series (see also, meh). It was less than I wanted to spend, more miles than I wanted on it, but at least it was a manual 330i and black on black. Walking across the lot I spotted a daytona blue 350z with a Nismo wing on it. They incorrectly labeled as a Nismo Edition. It has a Nismo intake, full Nismo exhaust, and a Nismo suspension, and the wing, but it has slider calipers and no front lip / bumper. Still, it was beautiful. 67k miles, I was looking at it, and talking with the wife. I commented how it wouldn't tow anything. She replied "Well the reason you wanted to be able to tow was so we could build an S14. If we buy this, why would we need an S14?" So I drove it, I loved it. I put my foot down in 3rd as I was merging on to see what it would do. It was so smooth I had no idea how fast I was going until I grabbed 4th. I got a stern warning from the Memphis police. I was not expecting it to go that fast in 3rd gear. :ohno:

So to make a short story long, we filled out the paperwork and I drove her home today.

Ladies and Gentlemen, my new Z.

Sorry for the cell phone pics. I was too busy driving it to break out the Nikon.

I'm gonna take it out tomorrow and clean it up. Then do a photoshoot.

Stay Tuned :bigthumb:

Well done sir. I love the color on it and all the goodies it had. What are your plans?

Plans are to rock it. I might buy a first gen Nismo lip for it.

The car's fast enough for now. Should be a little while before I start thinking power. Besides, I promised the Mrs. she can have suspension and wheels for the Civic before I do anything to it. But honestly, I'm just gonna drive it, maybe put some wheels on it, and have a good time.

Z #2 for me. I had a Z32 a few years back. The S14 would have been S chassis #5 (or is it 6?) :gotme but the idea just didn't get me excited. I couldn't sleep when I went to bed last night. I felt like a little kid at Christmas, I just wanted to get up and play with my new toy.

City Auto in Memphis is one of the best dealerships around. They have a TON of stuff, and aren't afraid of manuals. Their actual showroom isn't that nice, but the prices on the cars are great. They also refuse to sell a s***, so if there's anything wrong with the car, they fix it before slapping their "city auto" plate on it.

Its where I bought my Miata. I got a free fog light out of the deal because the original had a crack in it. It also helped that I told them they didn't have to put it on, saving them labor.

I hope you took a steamy dump in Dobbs Honda's parkinglot while you were up there.

CityAuto was great. They paid for a 3yr 36k mile warranty to get me financed. They were really nice and helpful. Probably the best dealership experience I've ever had.

Dobbs pissed me the **** off. I did the "build your own Frontier" on Nissan's website, I built a 4cyl 5 spd S and the 1 comment I put in there was "Must be a manual" They sent me a suggestion for a SV V6 Auto. I was like "Did you even read what I sent you?"

Pics as promised.

Looks good, although what's up with those seat covers? Very smurfy!

I'll have to hit you up next time I'm in the Memphis area.

They're not covers. The previous owner had the seats re-upholstered. I was thinking "Um.... that's weird..." when I first looked at it. They are slightly lighter blue than the car. It was getting to the OCD in me but I got used to them. You can tell the original owner loved this car. Nothing was done cheap. All the upgrades are Nismo. It has Nitto Neogens on it. It looks like the dealership rotated the wheels wrong. The narrower wheels are on the back. I guess it's an easy mistake, They're only .5" different. It had a different stereo in it. Looks like it had a flip up screen because there are rub marks on the center console.

Definitely hit me up. I still need to get to Nashville one day. I haven't done anything cool since I got here. I drained my bank account to put as much down as I could so I'm trying to sell some S13 parts I got lying around before Thursday. There is a NASA Auto-X event in Millington this weekend.

what kinda S13 parts do you have? As of right now, I'm staying local this weekend, but we'll see. Things tend to change.

Just some random stuff. A KA ARP headstud kit, a set of SARD 650cc injectors, an RB20 CAS, an RB26 Nismo FPR and some Auto-meter Gauges. (160mph Speedo, 10k RPM Tach, fuel gauge, and a boost gauge) I was going to build a dash for a project that never got finished. I still have a fresh rebuilt RB20 long block but that's back in NY. Like I said, random lol.

Thanks guys. She's been a great car to drive, when my wife doesn't steal it and take it to work before I wake up.

I think the thing that gets me most is the shift light. Maybe it's the angry Norwegian in me, but I hate shift lights. I'm always (sometimes literally) yelling at it. "You can't tell me when to shift! I do what I want!" but the Z has a programmable shift light. Now I see it as "Excuse me, but you asked me to remind you to shift." And now I like it. :rotflmao

Well, I don't know if I would call my equivalent story as practical :chuckle:, but back in March of 1991, I was driving home one day after dropping off an interview candidate at work. Had been planning to get a 1991 Z to replace my 1986 300ZX Turbo and happened to drive by Frontier Infiniti in San Jose.

Decided to test drive a 1991 Q45 they had in the lot (one of ten) and the rest is history ... :yesnod

I'm a little scared of 4.08 gears. I do a lot of highway driving. I'm already close to 3 grand at 65mph. If i could actually gear it a little taller I'd be happier. What does the Osiris tune entail?

Time to use that sixth gear. :poke: I was going 73 mph earlier and the tach was sitting at 2750 and 3k had me at 80.

...but then I've got the oil thirsty RevUp too. :gapteeth:

You could always go with a 3.7 or 3.9 and not take as big a hit on your mpg. And then there's Central 20 over in Japan that make a freakin' 4.2 if you want something truly crazy.

You'd be surprised, there's less than 1 mpg for me when it comes to highway cruising. As Badge mentioned, central 20 does make even more aggressive gears for these cars but I wouldn't recommend them on a daily commuter. (Your lap times would be incredible though :rotflmao )

Long story short, Osiris enables you to store 5 tuning maps on the car. You can access them by using the cruise control switches on the steering wheel, or simply by laptop if you have a Base Model (like me) Also allows the car to hit wot in every gear, and yes you feel the difference.

One of the neat features with Osiris is the "valet map." This restricts the car from passing a certain RPM. Good For: Valet speed junkies, theifs, revengeful ex girlfriend, Pretending to have a real 2step, etc.
