OEM stero lights up but no output?>

Postby itsj30t » Mon Jul 23, 2012 5:38 pm

I recently just picked up my J30 and it turned out that the head unit does not work. It lights up and all but no turn on? any input on this?

Thanks!

The Bose headunit(actually made by Clarion but branded Bose) is a weakness on the J30. The first time, mine failed it lit up but did not work. Your options are to pick up a working unit on ebay, Clarion will repair your unit (don't know what the cost is nowadays)-you have to ship the unit to them or go aftermarket.

I went the eBay route and got a 2003 or 2004 in-dash 6 disc changer out of a 350z.
Plugs straight into the wiring but it is wider and taller than the original head unit.
I had to dremel and file the opening in the surround to make it fit.
It's a pain to get it to fit just right.
You have to take some off of all 4 sides of the opening to get everything to fit correctly.
When you get close you have to take some off,
then test fit,
then take some more off,
then test fit again,
then repeat this about 1000 times and it fits perfect.
BTW, that surround is not solid wood, it is a layer of thin wood, sheet metal and another piece of wood laminated together.

This head unit is from a 2003 Nissan (sentra or pathfinder, I would have to check again). It required a small mod to the radio mounting bracket by re-drilling the cage screw mounts so the unit fit flush with the wood trim. The factory wiring harness was slightly different, it did plug right into the factory harness but this head unit had a power out which matched up to the ground on the factory harness. So I cut that wire in the harness.

Now I have 6 disc of MP3s. about 100 songs on each CD.
