Hey guys, my alternator is crapping out and I'm shopping around for an OEM unit. Anyone buy one recently? Where is a good place to buy one these days?

Can anyone confirm that this is the right part number? 2310060U02R.

Thanks! Not looking forward to the replacement as I hear it is not an easy job.

Hmmm, this doesn't sound good…just got a note from an online Infiniti dealer. Infiniti discontinued the alternator. No longer available. Any other suggestions on where to get a quality alternator?

That's no good. If you can't find an Infiniti/Nissan one, your next best bet is to find a genuine Hitachi alternator. They were the supplier to Nissan.

the problem with that one,and every other "remanufactured" one is knowing {guessing?} the quality of the rebuild process, and what critical parts were actually replaced,or just cleaned up? The beauty of the old nissan rebuilt ones was that the rebuild was actually done by nissan, and evidently, very well and thorough.

I don't know if Nissan actually rebuilt them, or outsourced the rebuilding to Hitachi. I can't imagine Nissan would source them from Hitachi, but then set up their own rebuilding facility... could be wrong though.

In the late 1990s, I got one for my old Q that had a sticker on it that said something to the effect of "This is actually a new alternator that has been inserted into the supply of remanufactured units"

If the OEM one is truly unavailable, then it's sadly a moot point anyway.

From the emails that I sent back and forth with Hitachi a couple of years ago regarding my fake aftermarket alternator in a Hitachi box (my fault, bought it from some guy's house in Atlanta on the way through... he bought it somewhere else that probably screwed him) I have some faith in the company. I'd buy one for my Q before just going to AutoZone and picking up a Duralast.

The Hitachi-branded alternator I installed in my Y33 was actually rebuilt by Hitachi, and has held up well for me.

It was ordered through Car Quest - I have no idea if they still stock them, or the G50 version.

Another possible solution would be to find a local alternator rewinder, and have them rebuild your original alternator.

2310060U02R is the correct P/N.
that would be sad. Have you talked with IoS, and have they indicated true obsolete, or just a long wait?
I'ts been 8 years since i've dorked with the G50 alt (no fun,btw)--but both mine (and the FGY33 for that matter) have factory remanned's

oh, might try just asking for the 2310060U02 (no R), and let them tell you that there are only 'R' (rebuilt) versions avail...

also makes me wonder where all the old stock went?

I contacted 4 online dealers (including IOS and orderinfinitiparts) and 2 replied saying that the part is no longer available and can't be ordered. (IOS never got back to me). I guess there might be some dealer in the country that has some forgotten dusty part on the shelf, but it would be a wild goose chase trying to find them.

Given that I can't find any tokico blues either, it is times like these that make me wonder if I should move on to another daily driver. Been considering the 2003 e39 BMW 540 m-sport.

sadly, i agree with this part of your conclusion. My G50s are now weekly drivers, with the avant as the daily.
At a minimum, having a second car so that the G50 can be 'down' while parts come in a prudent.
The other approach (which I have also done much to my wife's chagrin) is hoard parts.

Have you checked car "hyphen" part dot com? You can search junk yards and get one off a low-mile wreck and be pretty sure it's going to hold up for a while and be an OEM. The alternative is to take it to a local shop that rebuilds alternators/starters/motors. Normally the local shops do a quality rebuild since they have to look the customer in the eye.

I think your best available options are a local rebuild or ordering the Hitachi rebuild. If you can still buy the diodes (assuming that's your problem... that's the way two of mine have failed) and bearings from Nissan, you might be able to have it rebuilt with OEM parts that way.

Hi. I'm the other guy with a black '96 Q45 in the San Francisco. I have seen yours around town.
My Q is serviced at Hans Auto on 17th Street and they could easily have solutions to your alternator problems. They have done excellent work on my Q.
Also if you ever want to sell your car let me know.

Wish I had saved mine from my crashed G50. It was OEM and had only been in car about a year. Anyway, when you go to replace this thing, do not do it from above. Jack it up and remove the plastic belly pan. Remove passenger side tension rod then disconnect the AC compressor. Leave the AC lines attached so you don't lose freon. The alternator sits above the compressor. It won't be easy but it was the easiest way I found.
