Noises....off

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Anyone seen that play/movie? Hilarious.

Anyway, my point is about a variety of noises in my EX.

We all know about the ongoing high pitched whining noise whenever the accelerator is depressed, which still annoys me to this day but nothing can be done about it, apparently.

A second noise I have for 6 months of the year during the summer, whenever the a/c is running. It becomes very noticeable during long trips on hot days when the a/c has been running for quite a while, but sometimes does it even after a 40 minute trip to work. You can hear it best when stopped or under 10mph, it is a fairly loud yet very low pitch droning/groaning sound, hard to explain. However, it is directly related to the a/c system, because as soon as you hit the a/c button to turn it off, the noise vanishes immediately. Turn it back on, it comes back. The dealer heard it too, and was puzzled, but the official report was that 'they all do it, it's fine'. Even though mine doesn't always do it, and it didn't do it for the first year of ownership, apparently its 'normal'. It sounds terrible, and I don't think it's normal. Anyone else know what I'm talking about, or is it just me?

Finally, car was in for service the other week, did a 60k service and several other service items, and since I got it back, there is a squeak from the dashboard, almost constant, which sounds identical to a mouse. I think it's coming from the driver side. Short of laying a mouse trap, any ideas what that might be?!

Funny you should mention that. Going to see it for the first time tonight. My son has the lead roll in the play at his University.

I think I've got it.

-First the high pitched humming bird noise from a while back was resolved with an updated ECM. The throttle motor drivers are noisy and there are many people who cannot hear it.
I think the part number ends in a C but there is a tsb for it but in the parts system the part number has (in most cases) been updated.

-It sounds like your AC compressor is slowly dying. The bearings are overheating somewhere in either the front or rear of the compressor shaft. It might just be the magnetic clutch overheating and failing, which would be visible as redish brown dust around compressor wheel. In either case the whole thing needs to be replaced before the compressor actually takes a dump and potentially damages other components of the system.

-The person who replaced your micro filter screwed up. He pinched the left corner of the filter causing the right side to contact the blower motor. Yeah I have done that.
That's why you always check your work.

Question for SteveTheTech...

Concerning the High Pitch Noise... I'm one of those who can hear it :-( Went to the dealer and unfortunately... they don't know what I'm talking about (they can't hear the noise) and they can't help me out because they never heard of that problem... hahaha ;)

You mention there is a TSB... would you be kind enough the provide me the number... it would help me "convince" my dealer that the ECM replacement is the solution.

I'll be driving to Vancouver leaving from Montreal at Christmas... I really have to get rid of that noise or else... it will "drive" me insane ;)

Thanks for your help !

Your best bet might be to call Infiniti Consumer Affairs Canada.

Customer Service:
Telephone: 1-800-361-4792

http://www.infiniti.ca/en/general/foote ... ct_us.html

If the people at the dealer are giving you good service but not getting the answers you are looking for make sure you let the rep on the phone know.

As far as the ITB number I will do what I can to get that tomorrow (nico has been blocked :( ) so it will be a little later in the day.

Steve, any update on a TSB ITB number for the high pitched humming sound (which we think can be fixed with an updated ECM)? Or in your earlier email did you mean to say that there's NO TSB for it yet?

I have been asking around and keep getting different answers. Sorry for the lack of update Image

What I did when faced with this complaint was to call Tech-Line and I received the number directly from them. Not that it is some magic voodoo it's just their job. They keep a data base of this type of thing, but they only get called every once and a while.

There is a small glitch in communication and information sharing which actually might be addressed with a new OS for the software Nissan uses at their work terminals, so fingers crossed things might get much easier in the future. Technology has bested many of my colleagues and myself sometimes, however I know Nissan is constantly changing their procedures and policies it is then on the dealers to get it done.

My suggestion still has to be call CA.

Worse case scenario PM me and we can work on something to get this fixed.

Well... unless somebody comes up with a magic trick... I'm just about to give up regarding the high pitch noise.

-Went to the dealer... they had no clue.
-Then I followed SteveTheTech's suggestion (Call Infiniti Customer Service) and the answer I got is that all technical issues have to be resolved at the dealer.
-So... yesterday went back at the dealer... same story... they can't hear the noise, and they really treat me as if I were crazy. I even printed out the 2 threads as evidence, and they did not even want to have a look at it.

Looks like my road trip out West will be less fun than I thought...

Infiniti of Canada can sometimes suck.

Unfortunately I cannot look up anything with a Canadian serial number so I really cannot assist you with a whole lot. But I find a slight issue with this. Infiniti tends to have a better resolution rate and better overall customer service. I am very curious about what some of the details are here.

I will send an email to a friend about this but a response will take some time with holiday vacations and the such.

Took my 2008 Infiniti EX 35 back after two months due to noisy steering, have to wait about 6 weeks for steering to be installed. Still some noises when making a hard turn. The biggest problem right now is this vehicle is not staying on the road, i constantly have to battle with the steering to keep it straight especially on uneven roads, my other SUV and Van does not have same behaviour. Did test drive with the dealership and was told the tyres are the cause, I couldn't beleive that, vehicle is just 38,000km on wheel. Infiniti Canada offered to bear part cost of the tires. This is crap for such a lovely vehicle! Yes and also you hear all sorts of noises coming from the vehicle which incidentally the tech guys at Hyatt Infiniti Calgary can't hear or refuse to hear

Steve,

Do you have the TSB number and description for the high pitched noise for US customers? I mentioned in an old thread that I may have that issue but the dealer never heard of the problem before. It also doesn't help that the sound can almost always be replicated at ~62 MPH but the road where the dealer is has a speed limit of 50 and is routinely full of cops giving out tickets, making it hard to demonstrate.
