I had a no start, it seemed as if the fuel pump was bad. I replaced the fuel pump and she fired right up. now a month later no fuel again?? Could this be the relay? The ECM? Any help is appreciated

are you getting voltage to the fuel pump? could be the afm, if the afm sticks, or gets a dead spot the fuel pump won't come on

what do you mean by a dead spot in the afm? how can you tell if this is working, afm is the air flow meter, correct?

Scratch that, I found the AFM. If this were the problem how woudl you suggest I correct? It looks like there is a plastic cover on the unit, if i were to open this up woudl i be able to free it up? I am still not sure what you mean by "a dead spot" in it?Thanks for your help!

if it's stuck you can free it up by sticking your hand, finger, screwdriver, chicken bone etc into the front side opening, there is a flapper door in there and somethinmes they stick, as for detecting a dead spot, you take the afm out fo the car and measure impeadance across two of the terminals while moving the flapper door, the resistance should steadily change, if ti goes open anywhere you have a deadspot, this procedure is outlined int he fsm, which you cna buy on disk form form courtesyparts.com, we used to have a fsm section at nicoclub.com/fsm, not there now, not sure if it was removed or just a glitch

thank you so much for your advice! i opened up that little plastic door on the side of the AFM, the little arm in there seemed free. To answer a previous question of yours I do have good power going to the fuel pump, as well as the distributer. I pulled the new fuel pump today and it seems as if the motor is shot. i hooked it up to the battery directly with no result, also put an ohm meter on it and got no conductivity through the motor, sounds like this new one is a dud huh? we are talking about an '76 280z for anyone else just joining the conversation. thanks all this is a great resource!
