Nissan Xanavi system

i have an y33 with this system which uses a touch screen to control the aircon system
i want to remove it and replace it with an other setup ie non touch screen
have found that the system in my car is controlled via serial signals which are sent from the screen to a unit in the boot and then to another smaller unit
it is sent serial signals and i wanted to know if it would be possible to connect a computer and see how it is controlled and maybe create a unit to control it
or if another nissan uses a similar setup but without the touch screen

any help would be great
