One word of caution: Don't assume the VPP price is always better than what you can negotiate on your own. For example, the VPP price for a 2013 Altima is $150 below invoice. You can go on TrueCar.com right now and find dealers that are selling the same care for $500 under invoice.

I just wanted to give you guys a heads up because a lot of people make assumptions. Just because you're getting employee pricing doesn't mean it's the best deal.

I agree that one should certainly shop around and compare deals but my experience has been that VPP is always as good, if not better than what a dealer can typically offer. I say "typical" because some dealers will sell vehicles at a loss for repeat customers or those that will bring in more $$$ through referral business, or if they have a particular vehicle they want to get rid of desperately.

I checked VPP vs TrueCar and Edmunds in the metro Detroit area and my outcome for a 2013 Altima was the opposite of your findings.

2013 Altima 2.5S
Price is with $780 destination.
Metro Detroit area used for comparison example.

$23,280 MSRP
$21,207 VPP C-plan for friends/ext family $20,427 (dealer invoice $20,577 less VPP discount $150)
$20,357 VPP A/B-plan for employees and immediate family $19,577 (dealer invoice $20,577 less VPP discount $1000)
(* A/B plan VPP discount varies from vehicle to vehicle, $750 - $1500 IIRC).

$22,359 Edmunds TrueValue w/ $225 regional adjustment @ metro Detroit (or $22,134 w/o regional adj)
$22,163 TrueCar.com member price or $22,653 average price @ metro Detroit.

VPP C-plan is~ $1000 less, VPP A/B-plan is ~ $2000 less than the TrueCar/Edmunds in the metro Detroit area.

@altima_2012, I hope that you're not mixing up the numbers because VPP compares with dealer invoice while TrueCar.com compares with MSRP. If TrueCar member price in your zip is actually $500 below DEALER INVOICE, then that is an awesome deal :yesnod

Yeah the VPP Program is really great. Depending on the quality of the dealer there really isn't any wiggle room to undercut the price dramatically like back in the day. Margins have shrunk and they still are.

You have to weigh the quality of the dealer and your 'after buy' experience. Are you just a number or a valued customer? Do they care about you after you drive off the lot or are you just a statistic they run from when you come calling after they see your taillights leave the lot?

A hundred or two difference in price may not be worth the hassle of dealing with a sleazy dealer. Just my 2 cents.

Even with VPP, you have to watch some dealers. Without disclosing the info, the will include vehicle protection (aka undercoating and scotchgard), insurance, extended warranty, and sometimes an extra 0.5% or more explained as some service they have to charge. Those are all options up to the customer.
Several dealers in my area try drag as many $$$ out of as they can. Best thing to do is download a payment calculator app, plug in loan amount, interest per month (APR/12/100), and the number of payments.
In the past, it required an employee to sponsor you or work for a company that has business dealings with Nissan.
For those who lost their vehicles due to Hurricane Sandy, Nissan has opened this program up to the public.

Gents,
I purchased an Infiniti EX thru the VPP program back in 2010 with the help of someone I met on this forum. I am now in the market for a Juke and was wondering if there is anyone to sponsor a friend with the VPP.
Any and all help is appreciated.
Best to all,
J

PS- We love our EX and anticipate a wild ride with the Juke !

As PriorityNissanDude mentioned, all factory incentives (rebates and/or special finance rates) add to your discount.

Years ago, I bought an Xterra. I was able to get VPP price, the $2500 rebate, and 0.9% financing.

FYI
Picked up a new G37X in Nov. 2013 for a couple K less than my VPP price.
Got the VPP price from the dealer and then asked why the interweb says I should get it for cheaper. Came back with better price.

This is PriorityNissanDude. (Forgot my log in info haha)

There is something Called VRU with Nissan.
If you finance a Car Through and are good on your payments for 18 months, You get Guranteed approval on your next purchase(Excluding extreme negative equity) and get Tier one Rates!
I am still learning the ins and outs of the VRU and i will post any updates as i learn mopre about it.

But I purchased a 2.5s Altima through Nissan and my F&I director said i will be set to buy a 370z or a maxi once i made my 18th payment

New member here. Just discovered this site while searching for incentives on new Nissans. This is an excellent resource.

Haven't owned a Nissan since late 90's. Had a Nissan pickup that just wouldn't die. Now I'm in the market for a Quest (family of 5). By far the best looking of all the vans on the road.

So this VPP thing is great... if you work for Nissan, know someone that does, or work for one of the companies on "the list". Are there any options for those of us that aren't fortunate enough to have a Nissan buddy? Or should I just accept the fact that I'm going to have to start stalking an NNA employee?

I think you may find that with some of the incentives, you can get pretty close to the VPP pricing. Check out the monthly incentives post at the top (in the announcements) and get an idea for what's available...

Thanks hitman. I'll keep an eye on those incentives. Looking forward to seeing what February brings. Haven't noticed very many 2013 Quests moving this month. Thinking Nissan might be motivated to clear them out. The LEs are already deeply discounted, but not quite where I need it to be to fit the budget. Fingers crossed.

Got my Rogue through the VPP. I work for the Canadian National Railway and I got about $500 off with the VPP(and $1000 trade in.) Dealer also threw in the incentives at the time(0% financing, etc.).

New member here. This site is great! I have a question I'm hoping someone can clear up for me. I went to a dealership looking at a 2014 Rogue. The sales guy was offering me $3,000 for my trade. Once he found out I work for one of their partner companies he mentioned the VPP being a better option. For me. But said that if i went that route he'd only be able to offer me $500 for my trade. Does this sound right. I've never dealt with trading vehicles before so I'm new to this concept. It seems like my trade would be worth 3000 no matter what or am I wrong? Thanks in advance for any advice. :)

Welcome aboard, D! Glad to have you here.

That sounds a little bogus to me. If that's the case, get their best offer and put your current ride on craigslist (you'll get more for it there anyway) and save some cash.

Keep us posted, let us know what kind of deal you wind up with!
