Nissan Altima reliability - how does it truly compare?

Postby mkaresh » Sat Dec 02, 2006 4:07 pm

In the fall of 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research, with the aim of reporting more detailed and more easily compared information than is currently available. While over 10,000 cars have been enrolled in the panel, far more are needed. So I am very grateful that the owner of this forum has seen the value of this research and agreed to help out.

When I first posted this thread, I hadn't started collecting data on the Altima yet, because not enough are signed up--84 for all model years.

There are now 371 owners signed up, and we're collecting data (so far) on the 2002, 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2008. Many more participants are needed, though.

Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.

To encourage participation, panel members will receive full access to the results for free.

For the details, and to sign up to help out:

Just need a couple more 2007s to get started.

The next closest year is 2005, where I need six more signed up.

I'm going to start collecting data on the 2007 this month. More cars will still be needed before there can be any results, I'm assuming these will come.

With the 2005, still five cars short.

Started on the 2007.
2005 still four cars short. 2002 and 2003 are both 60% of the way to the minimum. Overall up to 131 Altimas. Thanks, guys.

Greetings to you as well. Nice car. Unfortunately, the last time I drove a 1990 Q45 was 1990. Drove both the regular and the Q45a back-to-back. Quite a difference. The Q had so much more character than the Lexus, it's just a shame that the Lexus had ten times the impact.

I visit a lot of forums. But Nico and GMI are easily among my favorites. Greg (AZhitman) has been awesome.

Thanks, I appreciate it.

For the 2008, 32 owners have signed up so far.

However, only 16 of these have responded to the survey, for a total of 38 months of data. I only show a result at all if there are at least 45 months of data, and asterisk this result unless there are at least 75 months of data.

There will almost certainly be a result. But unless quite a few more owners respond, this result will be asterisked.

A follow-up email with links to the survey goes out tomorrow. If you've already signed up, please respond to it. If you haven't yet signed up, please consider doing so.

Hey there, Im new to the site and just got my 2008 Altmima Coupe 3.5SE a month ago today. I enrolled the car on the panel for ya though.

I didn't see a spot to report anything. Like at 180 miles my airbag light came on and I had to put it in the shop overnight for the "blown" fuse to be replaced. Not a big deal, but still something to report.

BTW, I love this car! Take it easy.

lol... 1995 Altima GXE. 225,000+ on original engine. Would still be running strong if I hadn't totaled it a couple weeks ago.

Additional participants needed for all years, especially 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006.

Too bad I can't sign up my '98, '02', and '05 Altimas. Had them all 4+ years, and not a flippin' thing ever went wrong with them. Just tires, batteries, etc... Only one of them needed brakes during that time. This is what keeps me coming back for more.

I'll sign up my '08 coupe and sedan, though.

Added my '09 Altima Coupe 3.5.

Had it a month now. After 3300 miles on the car now, the driver side window's "auto" clicking feature will not roll up the window. The auto feature will roll down though. Going to take it to dealer very soon.
