heres a tip: almost all the info you will find on wikipedia (much of it word-for-word) can also be found on answers.com.

since wiki's articles are edited by any yahoo and clearly the people who moderate (if you can call it that) are usually equally qualified, these articles are somwhat slanted in their "factual content" at best and downright incorrect in some extreme cases.

also, a lot of the articles dealing with certain cars, drifting, xbox, pretty much anything that has a fanboy following are patrolled alomst zealously by these losers with nothing better to do than propagate such falsehoods.

Whats up with the pissing battle anyway? Its just wikipedia, the crap-tastic web info source that only satisfies a passing curiosity.

I don't get it because all of this crap you are arguing about is pretty much free to most of us. I know that caring is sharing, and since they don't care, we wont share, correct?

Are we on a quest for world domination or something? Help explain it to me please...

its a simple matter of them claiming to present factual information while reliably documenting their source while at the same time refusing to allow links to said sources. because only SOME of their "moderators" have an issue with linking to offsite sources, the articles that were created with the intent of drawing the reader towards more comprehensive information are rendered almost useless.

its not like you can ask the moderators of their articles a question regarding the specific topic they cover. on nico, however, we can.

No, you have it backwards (though your caring is sharing comment is dead on).

Wikipedia are the ones out for world domination. They're the ones restricting things. When has NICO ever prohibited linking to wikipedia? Even now, you won't see that happening.

WE want to help bring information to Nissan owners. We have NOTHING to gain from links at Wikipedia. We don't need "hits" from them. Linking here was simply a way to cite information sources (if information from a NICO thread is added to a Wiki page, I think NICO deserves a citation...) and to lead people to a place where they can find more info. The links were never there for NICO's benefit...they were there for Wikipedia browsers benefit!

WE were perfectly willing to coexist and share information with them. They are the ones that seem to feel the need to be the sole information resource on the web.

Are you kidding me?

The fact that you folks care so much shows it to be a pissing battle. If we don't get anything from whatever is going on over there, then just don't worry about it. I guess the only way I could be wrong here is if they actually are breaking any laws. Whatever, I wont bother with my opinion anymore cause it usually pisses off people anyway.

I read the entire thing and the editors of Wikipedia come off as very pompous and egotistical. They make it seem like it is not about what you add and how good the information is (whether or not there is a link). It is more about staying in line with the rules that they say. Mostly in my opinion they have probably lost a whole lot of good information by being so ignorant to the fact that you were telling the truth. I can't understand my they would take such an offense to such actions that were put forth to help the community at large. Doesn't make much since to me, but as it seems it doesn't really matter. As long as those editors come out of the conversation looking better to the themselves then when they went in.

youre right the editors do come off as pompous, but comeone dont act as if the nicostaff are completely innocent. both sides were being immature about the whole matter.

also, wikipedia is my homepage, i dont have a tv and its a pretty accurate way of being informed about major current events.

"At this point, why anyone would want to give them their information is beyond me"

Why would you make that your home page? If you want current events put it to CNN it updates like every 30 minutes. How much more current can you get?

I prefer the way wikipedia organizes their current events as opposed to any other source. im sure im not the only one who thinks so.

Eh, they can EAD.

When another site has more 240sx information, and has been in business for ten years, then I'll be impressed.

Until then, 240sx.org is THE authority on 240sx information, YES, even more so than Nissan.

Hell, how many people currently working for Nissan even WORKED on a 240sx? Not many.

And trust me, we get 130K pageviews daily - We're not worried about the tiny amount of traffic they think they might provide.

Don't make me educate you on Alexa.

Alexa simply shows the number of people who HAVE the Alexa toolbar installed who access those sites.

Guess what? Our demographic has no need for the Alexa toolbar, but the people who adore Wikipedia seem to love Alexa.

Another myth busted.

You're not a real good reader, are you?

Alexa results are based on how many people have the Alexa toolbar installed.

Our members have no need for such crap, but Alexa fans do.

The statistics are flawed.

We use Google Analytics, which is based off Urchin's software, and is the industry standard for measuring traffic.

Also, it's a no-brainer that Wiki gets more traffic than a one-make automotive forum (duh).

If you'll RE-READ my post, we're not worried about any traffic they might provide, we do just fine without them.

I think I also mentioned they can EAD.

No, thank you for talking down, makes you look real mature. I think in general people do not research or read before making rash decisions or stating absolutes in public places. Remember the greatest insult in the world is to be called a fool.

I just read through your prior posts.

You really are a retard.

Asking people to ship you pot, calling another member a "queer" because of his appearance, advocating date rape, and generally knowing nothing about cars... Why are you here?

Ok, I just skimmed this thread. Why is NICO trying to delete every wiki link? I mean, they won't link here... so... you won't link there? That seems pretty silly...

The silly thing is the way we were treated after we contributed to their wannabe encyclopedia.

We asked for nothing, yet got labeled "spammers". The witch-hunt mentality over there is simply absurd.
