Wiki's admins shoot first and ask questions later. I brushed up the Sallie Mae Wiki page and they removed all the links that I added. These were links of the subsidiaries of Sallie Mae. I honestly think they dont read the changes we make, just make snap decisions.

Minister-Was it a user or admin that removed/reverted your changes? If they do that multiple times you can turn them in for that.

At this point, it is moot. We need to create our own static information instead of worrying about updating _their_ information. With some elbow grease, we can do it easily.

Hey Chris - Check the link (1st post) again, Editor Milo is basically calling you a liar.

At least we've succeeded in fracturing their solidarity, we're seeing some support for our position.

He's sort of right: it wasn't within the last couple weeks that it happened. Don't see how that changes things, though...

I clicked his convenient link to the Q article:My major change is basically back, but reworded.

Their article used to end with a comment about how the Q45 was discontinued and the M45 would replace it as the flagship. Since I know the M45 is not the new "flagship" (which could very well be to interperetation, but that's like saying axing the Maxima makes the Sentra the new flagship...there are certain criteria that must be met...the Q has a certain prestige that MAKES it the flagship).Anyway, I added that the Q concept was expected to debut at a particular autoshow (which I don't recall) which had a "Concept Q" from Infiniti listed in it's "concepts appearing" lineup. I couldn't figure out their damn tags for external linking and didn't want to spend all day experimenting on a site that has no "preview changes" option, so I just left it unlinked. Later, someone edited in the link.

I was browsing it later and it had been reverted to the comments about the M45 replacing the Q and the Q being discontinued. I don't see why the one line (that the M is the new "flagship") that's LEAST accurate and mostly opinion and poor predition is the only part that's stayed. The rest was all fact, and got erased...

Wasn't a huge error, per se, but my change was more correct, so I found it odd that they'd change it back...

Now the mention of the Q returning is back.

I also added in some comments about WHY the Q was discontinued (poor sales numbers which were likely due to poor advertising on Infiniti's behalf). Those changes disappeared as well. Why? It was entirely correct. I even added in a "most likely" or something. Those comments are not there any longer.

So I guess it wasn't a glaring error. But it was a correction and an addition *correct* information. Both were removed. I find that odd.

They even removed a link to Q45.org (I don't know if I added it or not, but I know there was one at one time), which is a non-NICO site and not a forum, but a how-to and info repository (that just happens to link to NICO as the forum). Fits right in with your "seeing spammers under the bed" comment.

Wiki has turned into a bunch of college morons with a tube of KY and a couple footballs.

At this point, why anyone would want to give them their information is beyond me. As far as I'm concerned, any NICO member who wants to detail information should do it here and work with the Mod staff to make it static information.

Wiki can go F itself.

I usually stay away from wiki, mostly because of this thread. But I was reading some info on GM motors when I hit the edit button...made a quick change and it stayed...is this normal? Can I randomly edit all kinds of articles? Am I on crack?

I could have way to much fun with this.

It stays initially. If you start going through and randomly change stuff that is inappropriate or inaccurate they will simply ban your IP from access.

Thats cool by me, I'll just change things that won't be noticed. I can use my laptop from my neighbors wireless account...no IP ban for this kid.

Whom does this refer to and what happened?

"It appears a lot of discussion ensued, and I even came across a comment that "someone" was given "a second chance" and "blew it"" ?

I believe that refers to Greg. In their mind they gave him a second chance. Of course, they did not tell anyone (even their own "staff" members)

Look into getting a accreditation for the information on NICO. Also, does the site having a forum scare them away as anyone can click the external link come to one of your "PORTAL" sites then by accident click on a forum link, go to the forum and read something that wasn't true to the informations nature?

It looks like this thread was a moderator thread only until the mods decided to release it to the dogs (us users) in Gen Chat so that we could see what all was going on with the wiki vs nico situation.

Hence the allowable swearing and goat p0rn in the moderator only forums.

Goat p0rn is only posted in WD's threads. They get no views now that we know what he is up to

Wikipedia has gotten out of hand. In the American Politics class I took last semester there were students citing Wikipedia as a source on their term papers. It's not an academic source, nor should it be viewed as such.

I tend to use Wikipedia for important research like, "Just how many episodes of The Golden Girls were produced and what is the title of episode #106?"

What?

Hmm, clearly I need to brush up on more intarweb public affairs type stuff. I had no idea that wikipedia was a breeding ground for that kind of assclownery. Overall, I like the site and think it's a neat, one-stop-shop for all kinds of things, though I doubt I would use it for any worthwile research. That said, I may still look through it here or there (like for information on obscure anime titles that I can't find much about elsewhere), but I damn sure will not be contributing to the likes of them.

Thanks for the heads up, and the interesting read.

Heheh, it took me a bit, but I just realized that this was moved from the moderators section to general chat. LOL.

Hence the lack of censors and only mods posting. LOL

Question: Arn't things posted on the internet still the intellectual property of the person that wrote the information?

I'm not sure if the wikipedia agreement(is there one) when you log in has something about all postings being the property of Wiki. If there isn't such a clause isn't removing credit to the writer of said article an act of plagiarism ?

*edit* Also, what happens if someone, lets say me, goes on to wiki and posts some information taken directly from Nico. IIRC the information on nico is the intellectual property of nico. This means that it is the property of the owner of Nico(greg), correct? If this is true then any agreement that I personally agree with on wiki does not allow me to legally post said info on wiki, correct?

Therefore if they refuse to remove said information or give credit the copyright/ plagiarism has occured, correct?

I'm thinking of it like if a renter of a house gives permission to someone to take something that the homeowner owns. The renter doesn't really have the right to give it away.

So if my thinking is correct then all admins and moderators should stop posting on Wiki. You should employ a regular member(secretly) to post said information and a citation. If said citation is removed you have a basis for copyright/ plagiarism infringment.

Brien - You're pretty close...

Basically, people were trying to be helpful.

Our raison d'etre is helping people with Nissan questions and information. That's why we're here. And just because someone hasn't run across NICO shouldn't mean they have to "stumble in the dark" looking for good info.

So, on occasion, we reach out. Reaching out on WP by posting good info, correcting flawed info, and linking to additional resources (where people could research further) was perfectly fine for years.

Then, they start seeing spammers under the bed, and implement "nofollow" tags, which was fine and made sense. But even THAT wasn't enough, and they started eliminating links to outside resources.

I was very surprised to hear of this. I like wikipedia as it has basic info on a variety of subjects. They cant be THE encyclopeida of the internet. But its a good place to start research.

Ive also noticed that wikipedia articles are quickly copied to other sites. About.com copies tons of wikipedia entries. I think Ive seen Wes's Q info on at least 6 different sites. I assume they copied the info from wikipedia. No credit is given to the author or NICO.

I do like that they have recently begun requiring references for info submitted. That cuts down on the misinformation that gets added. But not allowing a dynamic page as a link is just retarded.

As somebody mentioned, it seems theyre scared of any site thats bigger or has more exposure than them.

I find it funny that they basically don't want people to learn more then the information that's on their site.

Atleast that is how i'm viewing it.
