so i'm doing everyones favorite swap, ka24de into a ae86 chassis. :dblthumb:

well, its a carb'd 4ac auto SR5 chassis, so im not ruining a perfectly good car, i actually yanked it out of the weeds...

anywho, so i bought a long block from a local guy who knew nothing about it, said it was in the back of a 240 he bought and it was "rebuilt" :lolling:

so i tore it down today and realized, its a 1998 240sx shortblock via the vin on the side and i'm assuming a frontier head as it has 5 cam caps as opposed to 6. my question is, are there any downsides to this head? if i spin it to 7k rpms will the last lobe come free from the rest of the cam? any suggestions as to upgrades while its apart? i am currently doing rings, bearings and lapping the valves for peace of mind and later plan on cams. also debating on on running carbs as the chassis is carbed and i wouldnt have to fool with converting it to efi, but im uncertain of this plan.

so any advise on the head or any preventive work that i should do now would be super beneficial. thanks

Welcome to NICO!Thats a pretty unique build that you've got in mind.
I'm not able to help you out a ton, but papasmurf might be able to get you pointed in the right direction- he's got loads of knowledge. Add a link from this thread to this one:

Good luck and don't forget to start a build thread and take photos as your project progresses!

I'm not too familiar with the Frontier KA head, but I'd be willing to bet it has different cams and/or valves to yield a different torque/power curve more suited for a truck. You could most likely verify this by looking up the cam and valve specs in the FSM (www.nicoclub.com/fsm)

If it were me, I'd get a known head... and it sounds like you're tearing everything down anyway, so you could get one that hasn't been rebuilt.

OR you can roll the dice with the engine you have and just run that bad boy. If you blow it up, who cares... KAs are like $200 hah.
