Hey, Nico forums i'm jimmy. I just purchased my first 1990 300zx N/A yesterday. Will be posting up pictures later up tonight.
Just wanted to ask for some tips on what i should look into getting up to spec first. Getting the smog done tomorrow, So after smog is done I can begin working on the car. Thanks in advance, Jimmy.

Thanks! It's running a little rough. Kinda bogs a little when i'm under 3k rpms. As if it floods. Any idea what it can be?

Welcome! I'd start with a vac leak test. Check the timing first, once it's warm. If it's too retarded you'll lose a good amount of power. Set it to 15 degrees BTDC and you'll be in great shape.

could be a lot, tps could be off, bad air filter or fuel filter, plugs can do that too. how rough does it run/bog?

Yeah it feels like i'm not running at 100% right now. I'll be sure to check the timing tomorrow. It also idles a little high, i'd say about 12-1500 rpms. & Then it will suddenly drop out of no where.

Only bogs & runs rough under 3k Rpms. Planning on doing a full tune up this weekend. Car has been sitting a couple months, due to the previous owner.

Check codes with the ECU diagnostic. I'll try to find a link, but I think its in our tech forum.

under 3K indicates a MAF issue to me. Your high idle could be the IACV setting, the TPS setting, or a MAF issue.

Welcome to NICO! My name is Mark.

I suggest you check the vac lines. Also it wouldn't hurt to give the IACV a good cleaning.

Hey Mark nice to meet you. Everyone at NICO is very welcoming & helpful. :-)
Well i checked the majority of vac lines & i found 3 disconnected.
Hooked them back up & it helped the idle a little bit. So i'm going to do a more furrow inspection this weekend alone with a full tune up.

Sorry for the Delay guys! You know how it is being 18, working & going to school. Hardly have any spare time. But no worries, Pictures coming soon! Getting her Detailed & cleaned up tomorrow & will definitely snap some pics :) BTW: Update on the car's running condition. Found the vacuum hose that was making it idle high. Fixed that. & Adjusted the throttle so running alot better!

Welcome, and given that you have found a bunch of disconnected vacuum hoses I assume there may be more so keep hunting. You should also check connected ones as they can become brittle and be loose fitting or cracked.
Also, as mentioned your MAF may be dirty and can be cleaned with a special MAF cleaner you can get at Autozone, or any supply shop- spray it on and let dry a few times and that could well help your idle, and is a good idea every other time you change filters.
Check IACV as well of course as mentioned, and make sure it's hooked up...mine wasn't when I went hunting around for my own idle issue years ago and when hooked up, all was perfect!
Good Luck!

As of right now, i'm just getting it up to Spec. After she's ready, few bolts ons. Catback + Intake, UD pully's, Don't plan on going on an all out hunt for power lol. Then some Powertrix coilovers. Heard good things about them.
