New wheels & TPMS

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I would like to get some new wheels for the wife's '10 Journey but I have read that either new TPMS sensors must be installed or maybe (and preferably) the old sensors remounted or just deleted. How do you go about installing new wheels and dealing with the TPMS?

I haven't had to deal with this issue; but I found a lot of useful information in this thread:

Thanks NJGuy, that thread was usefull if you want to program new sensors. Can you just move the sensors from the old stock rims over to the new rims?
I actually don't need the things as I keep pretty close tabs on the tire pressure anyways.

I would say 'yes', more or less.

The EX uses sensors in which the valve stems are part of the sensor assembly. As long as the new rims can accommodate this style of TPMS sensors, there shouldn't be much of a problem. TPMS has been mandatory on new passenger cars sold in the US since 2008. So if you're getting a brand new set of aftermarket rims, I would think that most, if not all, of the wheel manufacturers have made their wheels TPMS compatible. If you really want to be sure, check with the manufacturer of the wheels that you plan to buy.

And if you're upgrading to another set of late model Infiniti rims, then it shouldn't be a problem at all.

When getting the TPMS installed, the only thing I've heard that you might want to do is to get a "rebuild kit" since the sensors are already disassembled from the wheel. It's not mandatory, but this is one of those things you do for peace of mind.

I'm getting Einki rims and the web site asks for the model so I'm assuming that means they're TPMS ready. I'll double check.

My boyfriend just had my sensors moved from my 17" to my 19" wheels and they work fine - but then again my 370Z wheels were designed for Nissan/Infiniti style sensors.

Unfortunately I have no pics but the design should work with a wide variety of wheels. :bigthumb:
