I just bought an 2010 m35x
I am trying to use the CF
I have no what is wrong with it
I bought a sd to CF adapter.(NEW EXTREME SDHC / SD to Compact Flash CF Type II Card Adapter)
My sd card can be read in windows and songs played.
I formatted the sd to fat32 and copied the songs straight to the card
and I get (no files on disk) :gotme

not sure myself, i use a real CF card with no problems, i was debating about getting an SD card, but i got my 8 gb CF for pretty dirt cheap. BTW it only reads up to 8 or 16 gb from what i believe. People have had problems with larger size cards

Im no expert on the requirements for these cars, but maybe the compact flash to SD adapter just isnt supported. CF is not only much faster (usually) but also has different technology like built in ECC and entirely different transfer protocols. So that could have something to do with it, or maybe it is a file system structure issue.

Best Buy will charge you 10x as much than if you buy it from a place like Newegg, which has better customer service and a much larger selection anyway

I play music off of CFs cards almost exclusively. Haven't had a problem with two cards I use in rotation, 2gb sandisk and a 2gb kingston. I would definitely try using a CF card.

Since there isn't enough screen size for a very long filename and the filenames do not scroll. I found when putting music on the card the following folder/filename convention works best for me, YMMV.
artist-album_name
-01-trackname.mp3
-02-trackname.mp3
-and so on.

Rename the files first on the computer and then copy them to the CF card, a few times I renamed files on the card and the Infiniti system did not order numerically and rearranged my files.

Page 4-40 in the manual has a specification chart of the filesystem/file types the system supports. It supposedly supports 512 files if you have a navigation system

I might have a 512mb CF card laying around If you're willing to wait, I can test it out in my car to make sure it works and send it to you if you'd like a small card to try. PM me if interested. Or you could always buy a card from a local retailer to try it out and return it, Walmart and Target have generous return policies.

Only 512 files are supported? That seems kinda low :( Guess it would be pointless to buy any card larger than 4GB. THat would be enough space to store 512 mp3 files of 8MB in size per song, which is around average for the higher bitrate mp3 files.

I still think it needs to be a real compact flash card.

Hello All,

Sorry this is bit old thread, but I wanted to share my experience for benefit of others and also to seek some clarifications from members. I had been using a 2GB compact flash in my 2010 M35x (with navigation), but of course it ran out of space. I bought today a Kingston 16GB CF card for about $17 Canadian and so far have filled it up around 5GB (multiple folders, nothing in root, believe total is still less than 512 tracks, forgot to check, which may be limitation only if we add directly to root and will need confirmation as I don't own anything more than this yet, and I may have to find something public source to test out for more numbers). To me, it seems more rugged to use low cost CF card than trying to use CF to SD/HC adapters plus SD cards. And I have cut out a small vertical plastic piece in the cover to fit it back on with the CF card in.

Here is the link to the 16GB CF card that works.

I also tried to use my old iphone 3GS as an ipod but with the factory adapter cable in the car, it does not detect iphone 3GS (running latest OS 6.x).

Does anyone has experience using CF cards of more than 8GB and carrying more than 512 mp3 files either in root or in the folders or combination of two?

Thanks
