Strange that the SES is not on. Are you sure the light is working? It must come on with Ignition ON then goes off after starting, if no fault.

P0440 is Evap System Leak. Check your fuel filler cap for crack or leak. Some non-OEM caps may be problematic. If Ok, check tubing/connectors to/from Evap Canister. Make sure the tubing have no cracks and connections are tight.

P1605 is A/T communication problem (w/ ECM). How's the battery? A fully charged battery must have >12,6 VDC. How about the alternator charging voltage, must be >13.8VDC and steady (spec is 14.1 to 14.7VDC). Check the harness to/from TCM (Transmission Control Module).

thanks Loystock. well the SES doesnt seem to work, another reason i failed emissions. i checked all fuses, is the buld possibly blown, if so. how do you replace.

The gas cap does look cruddy, i gonna clean cap, I also overfilled gas tank with my 1st fill up, they had a sale on premium, so i tried to get every drop.

i only put 200 miles on car, but didnt seem to have a issue with the battery or charging. i will check that out tomorrow.

To get to the TCM, i have to take out the center console and look for a silver/gray box?

btw. battery and alt are both ok. since my MIL doesnt work (come on) and partial reason why i failed emission, is there a bulb i have to replace or a fuse. i checked all fuses, they are ok

Where did you buy the car? In some states like CA, passing Smog Check is required before a car can be sold (except immediate relatives). It's possible the lamp has been tampered to hide the problem.

You need to to pull out the instrument cluster to replace it. If the car was built before 2001, most likely, it has a bulb. If it's built in 2001, it may have LED which is more difficult to replace. Refer to the link below for more info:
