New Lights on my EX35

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

After being very dissatisfied with the lighting output of my EX35 I decided to do something about it.
This was done at a much smaller fraction of the cost than going with OEM headlight assemblies not to mention obtaining a much superior output.

All OEM products were used such as the Lexus RX350 Bi-Xenon D2S projectors, factory Matsushita ballasts and OSRAM 5000K D2S bulbs. I still managed to retain the halogen high-beam for flash-to-pass capability and added visibility.

This is the result:

Very Nice!
So did you take out the EX projectors and replace them with the Lexus ones?
What about the balasts?
Curious - but why didn't you use the stock projectors? Was this a time consuming job?

Looks great

1) The EX projectors were indeed replaced with Lexus ones. More specifically the Bi-xenon setup from a RX350.

2) The ballasts are new Matsushita branded. These are what Nissan/Infiniti uses for their OEM applications. My car was halogen to begin with so I did not have the original ballasts only aftermarket (junk!) which I did not want to reuse.

3) The stock projectors (halogen and Xenon) are a lower quality projector due to their limited distance, etc. The Lexus projectors are a superior product by KOITO ( http://www.koito.co.jp/english/f_index.html ). We also noticed the headlights had moisture/condensation inside (sign of poor quality control) which at the time of this conversion allowed us to reseal the headlight with a much better sealant.

4) I had this done professionally and it took about one business day.

5) Thanks

I am curious myself how much this setup cost. I am currently using just a plug and play kit on my halogen lamps, visibility is not the best. Would love to do a proper retro fit.

This ran me about $1300 (installed) vs the >$2300 (plus labor) of going with the Infiniti EX35 OEM application.

See above.
I tried a PnP kit and even though at first the output was acceptable (mind you better than the halogen OEM) it got old fast.

Thanks. The output is only getting better as the bulbs "burn in".
Supposedly these bulbs turn slightly whiter as they "set" into place.
They are 5K in color to begin with but I suspect they should burn into a 5600/5800K color which is a more rich white.

I had this done at an auto retrofit lighting shop since I didn't have the patience nor did I want to "screw up" anything while using such expensive components.

Very soon I will grab additional photos specially lighting down onto a road.

Thank you for following up. The nicest I have seen for sure!

Since I don't have a grand burning a hole in my pocket and since I have just silverstar ultra halogens, do you mind letting me know which kit you had before this and maybe what to look for and what to avoid?
I have read a ton and looked through all sorts of youtube comparisons. Looks like philips makes the best bulbs and I should look for those in whatever kit I decide on. Probably should stay away from ebay, although I am sure there are a few reliable kits scattered about in there... 4300K-5000K is what I would desire.

THANKS AGAIN!

I ended up getting a kit with a dedicated wire harness from The Retrofit Source. Definately not junk and so worth the $125
