Took my 2008 Rogue in for an oil change and the service manager informed me there was a recall for something about the door handles. They said they would call me when the replacement parts came in. Does anyone here know anything about this new recall? I have yet recieved any written notification from Nissan concerning this. Glad however my dealer is on top of things.

There is only notice/tech bulletin for the door handles and it came out last year.

They are not specifically 'recalling' all Rogues, nor have they sent out notices as not every Rogue has this problem (I never got one). When a Rogue comes in for service, they will check and apply any necessary tech bulletins.
NTB09125 - CP 2008 - 2009 Rogue; Front Door Handles - Voluntary Service Campaign

In certain 2008 and 2009 Nissan Rogue vehicles, to assure customer satisfaction, Nissan is conducting a voluntary service campaign to install seals to the door latch assembly and apply special grease to the door cable ends to prevent freezing under certain conditions. See this bulletin for further details.

I own a 2009 and received a mail notice today (11-9) for the door handle fix. The service writer has to order the parts. He also said the fix was color-coded to the car's exterior color. Since I am the first one at this dealer, he could not give me a time frame for receiving the parts.

My dealer called me today saying the replacement parts they ordered came in. I scheduled an appointment for Monday and will let you know what they do, as I have no idea what they're going to replace.

I received a mailing from Nissan stating this was to fix a potential cold weather freezing problem. The new parts are some sort of new seal. I'm taking it in tomorrow for the upgrade.

Yes, this is the same one I had done recently.

I had the door latch freeze up twice last year. The result was the same every time: the exterior door handle would disengage and the only way to open the door is from the inside. I haven't had it re-occur since the new seals were installed.

Got the upgrade this afternoon and it was an education watching it done as I've never seen the inside of the door before. They took off the inner panel and removed the window. My first though was would there be any rust or corrosion inside the 3 year old door. To my relief the interior was spotless. The new seals were added and everything put back in place and the whole thing took about 90 minutes. Though I live in Illinois I never had a problem with freezing doors but someone must have prompting the campaign. All in all another example of Nissan staying on top of things, and reinforcing my confidence in the brand.

On thursday my pas. door did not want to open and I made an appt. to the dealership this coming thursday. I figured since last year they fixed my driver's door handle 2 times and nobody touched the pas. door so it would happen one day or another. Today my driver's door does not want to open again. Things getting ridiculous because now I have to open the door from the back. Hopefully this problem will not appear to the back doors.

Leo, they should have fixed all the doors under the recall. Not just the one.

IMHO, they should have repaired all the doors the first time. The bulletin covering this is over a year old already.

Hey philipa. I couldn't wait until appt. and stopped by at my friend's home today. Fixed both doors together in about 2 hours. We had to take front panel off then plastic panel off that holding window regulator remove the window and the screw under rubber cover on the side of the door next to the lock. Then we had an access to the whole lock but the problem was that the ball got out of the lock and stock somewhere between. Took the ball out and putted to the right place with covering of some hot glue on the top so it won't go out again (hopefully). I have some pictures on my friends phone and if interested I can post it tomorrow. BTW you're saying recall applies to all doors but my sound proof material (dynamat) was damaged only on my driver's door...the one that had a problem last year. Well now it is damaged on both doors.

I would still bring it in to get the work done as per the tech bulletin. The replacement/redesigned door handle seals along with the applied grease will keep it from happening again.

From happening again in theory...My driver's side door handle had the recall done two winters ago, and this winter it's starting to make the same noises and have the same general "unsmoothness" as last time before the linkage became disconnected. We'll see if it happens again this winter.

Good thing I didn't cancel my appointment because today driver's door got the same problem. Also I want them to take a look at the wheel bearing so they can tell me it's 100% the problem. These days it is getting louder.

The mechanic said the recall was only for front doors and that's what they did today. But isn't it the same mechanism on the rear door? Great thing for me was that they confirmed that front left wheel bearing was bad but after call to the Nissan they got it fixed at no charge even that my warranty expired last month :D

Just had the outdoor handle cable pop off on our 09 Rogue with 38,000 miles on it. Pretty sure it was ice related.

I took the whole door apart - including removing the window, and could see where the cable had popped off, but couldn't for the life of me figure out how to route it and re-attach. Some special tool is needed to thread it behind the lock mechanism I think. So I gave up in frustration, put it back together, and took it to the Nissan dealer.

They charged me $95.50 to re-attach it! Unbelievable!

So I called them yesterday after reading this thread, and they gave me some BS about how my Rogue wasn't affected by the warranty extension. I get home to find a warranty letter from Nissan in the mail saying my VIN number is included - and I call the number, and they're going to reimburse me the $$ I had to spend on this. I'm pretty pissed at my local Nissan dealer though...

I'm worried it'll happen again though - because they didn't add the seals or use new grease - they just popped it back in. (At least the repair comes with a warranty!)

That is incorrect, the warranty fix included adding some new seals etc. to prevent this part from popping out again in the future, I think you might need to talk to your dealer again and make sure you get the proper fix (as painful as that may be for you considering they don't seem to be very knowledgable or willing to help). Here is the TSB Overview:

Technical Service Bulletin No. NTB10117

"Nissan is conducting a voluntary service campaign on certain MY08 and 09 Nissan Rogue vehicles to apply a seal and special grease to help prevent the front outside door handle latch assembly from freezing. See this bulletin for further detail"

Yeah - I know they were supposed to add new seals etc... I even told them that - but they played dumb. Any way - it's under warranty to 72,000 miles - so if it happens again - I'll be there looking over their shoulders to make sure they get it right!

It's hit or miss if it will reoccur. Mine did it twice in the span of 8mos. Got the recall done and never had an issue since.

IMHO, try another dealer and get the recall done so you don't have to deal with this during a storm or worse.

I have a 2008 Nissan Rogue, and I live in Missouri. We received notification that it was included in the service campaign for the front door handles. Took it to the dealer in early January to have that work and several other things done.

Now, less than a month later, the power window on the driver side is popping when it's rolled up after being all the way down. We had no trouble prior to this service visit. My understanding is that they remove the windows to get to the door handle. Took it back to the dealer and said I thought there was an issue with the repair that is now affecting the window.

They just called to say it involves the power window regulator and that the cable that holds the window is fraying. I asked if this could be related to them having the door apart and the window out of the car, and he assures me there is no link between the two.

I don't buy it. This dealership has been exceptionally hard to deal with. I swore I wouldn't go back after the last time, but I took it back because I thought it was their screw-up causing the problem. Anyone have thoughts on whether the process involved with the door handle fix (if not done properly) could lead to this issue occurring?

Oh, the car is less than three years old and has under 37,000 miles, but they said there was no way Nissan would cover it under the original 3/36 warranty. I have an extended warranty, but it's getting to be the principle with these people. They are just crooks.

rowdy_canuck or Anyone else---do you happen to still have the letter that Nissan sent about the door handle issue with maybe the recall number, VIN numbers or any other info that might be helpful when talking to someone other than the unhelpful dealership?

Rebuffing this posting

It's 6 degrees F out and my driver door popped again.. 5th time and the dealer charges me each time.. Feeling ripped off.
So far this problem has cost me 150.. each time and once when both doors popped a tow.. Total costs so far- $650.00

Really ticked off and letting everyone know the poor track record of this 2008 model..

you're lucky..when i took mine in december 15th the dealer quoted me $379..that was for the driver side..the passenger was fine..yesterday jan 7th, suddenly the passenger side stopped from opening like the driver's side..so according to the dealer price, i have to pay more $700 for both doors..when at least they should have put a seal in the passenger side to prevent from happening

Stop complaining. You guys won the lottery with your dealers. :bash:

After waiting for my car for nearly an hour and a half.

Not only was there no way they took the door apart to see what was wrong, no possible way. (Because I found out myself by taking it apart)

The Dealer wanted to charge me nearly $600 to fix the passenger door handle behind the drivers seat where the baby carrier was located.

Hence my $600 is only enough for 1 repair. I don't get another 3-4 repairs out of the cash that would have been paid.

McGuyvered it myself for free with some nail pliers and ingenuity. But took all day and was a major pain in the A**!

If I can please re-up this post, I'm in need of help. My Nissan 2009 Rogue SL, with 82,820 miles on it, the door handle just broke in the way that you all are posting about. I've owned this car since 2013, as the second owner, I am in the know of only one recall, but not about this service bulletin. Wondering if I will need something to show the local dealer in order to have this work done on it?! Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
