As some of you know, I had 20 X 8.5 and 20 X 10.0 MMR wheels in my previous life. I originally bought Toyo T1R 245/35's and 275/30's.

Well, I went another .5 inches in both the front and back widths when I bought the Vossen's. My back wheel (10.5 inches) was stretched. I felt the car needed a little bit more sidewall. So, I bought Falken-452 255/35's and 285/30's.

Let me tell you(only 75 miles on them), the ride quality, road noise, and HANDLING are terrific and beyond my wildest dreams. The supple ride quality is unbelievable. The quick turn in response and flatter turning are blowing me away. The lack of noise is music to my ears. I really, really hope she stays this way. I will report the long term prognosis as the miles rack up. And with my current fun setup they WILL rack up quickly.

So far I will tell you this, this is the absolute best tire I have ridden on.I have been on PS2's, Yoko's, Bridgestones, Goodyears, Toyo's, and Dunlops to name a few. I have recently driven a few cars at the dealership. This car out handles them big time while exibiting GREAT ride quality all the while lowered.

Onto the pics...

STRETCHED on 275/30's

285/30's (back in Spec)

In my opinion, the perfect amount of sidewall for 20's (3.5 inches)...

Lots of meat at 285/30...

Simply amazing. Im also lowered on H-tech and its a perfect drop for those wheels. I had my eye on vossens for a while, just found out they released a new rim similar to yours, model VVS-085, which Im considering.

Looks great. I like my Falkens as well (although just on stock sport wheels). On another note, has anyone seen a pattern on cars that have removed badges? It seems that they are never the higher model...

in my opinion, this setup looks much better

It looks really nice man. sweet setup, but i'm curious. I'm guessing that the roads out your way are fairly flat and smooth, being that you are in the Southwest. I'm over here in Virginia, and I can't say too many good things about the roads around here. We have LOTS of Bridges and tunnels, and most of these have huge bumps or gaps on the approach, and sometimes on them.

Do you have any suggestions for something with a little bit more sidewall thickness. I drive my car sensible, but it would be a PITA if I had to slow down at piece of broken pavement in daily driving. Or do you think the 285/30's will be ok. I'm open to suggestions.. I don't have rims yet, but when I get back home in December, I plan to either purchase a set of have a set waiting on me..

Thanks in advance...

In regards to 20's the next step up for sidewalls would be 245/40/20 & 275/35/20. This setup would give you the same sidewall as the standard 19" stock wheels & tires. On Teins they barely will fit without rubbing. I know this because I test fitted a set. It works well but you have to like the look of a thick sidewall on a 20" wheel. Also, performance will suffer in terms of handling.

I personally believe you'd be better off sticking with a nice 19" setup if the roads are a nightmare where you live. Then run 255/40's for even more added protection.

My setup is quite smooth but I don't have to deal with big potholes on a daily basis. If I did I'd be running 19's or even 18's depending on the severity.

I did some really aggressive driving last night taking the car sideways. The control is fantastic. Gas, turn counter to the skid, and she lines up beautifully with exceptional control. Tires were silent. I got to tell you, this is a fun setup!

The VVS-085 are Vossens nicest looking wheel in my opinion. I'd scoop that up in plain silver then trade with me for my VVS-078's.

Thanks for the compliments.

Falkens are a pretty middle of the road subpar tire manufacturer (read the tests) and streching distorts the profile for which they were designed, so now their performance is degraded even more.

Of course, those dumb tire engineers don't know nearly as much as us much more clever chaps!

Read all of the tests you want, I also have the Falken 452's, and they are ( so far) the best tire I have purchased.

You might try reading the post properly and then even your arrogant butt will realize they are NOT stretched.

BTW Your sarcastic commentary is subpar as well.

I read consumer reports. Now listen carefully...

The Falken Ziex ZE-912 rated highest of all tires tested in the Ultra High Performance all season tire. It bested Bridgestone Potenza RE960 AS Pole Position, Michelin Pilot Sport A/S, Continental ContiExtreme Contact, Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S, Nitto Neo Gen ZR, Yokohama Advan S4, Toyo Proxes 4, to name a few. I have driven on these with a M45X at the dealership recently and they are awesome. They were a big part of the reason I bought Falken 452's.

The Falken Ziex ZE 512 performance tire beat out 14 out of the 17 tires tested in it's category.

The Falken 452's rated good or higher in every category. Including outstanding in resisting hydroplaning, and very good wet braking and handling. It was 12th out of 21 tires tested. Bridgestones were 3rd but we know what happens to them after 10K miles. So far it has been a pleasure to drive on these without the radio on. Minimal noise and smooth ride quality. The feedback and feel of the road is probably the best I have ever felt. Very quick turn in response. Very flat turning due to the sidewalls. And most importantly, FUN!

Too call Falkens subpar is just plain ridiculous and proves ignorance is not bliss and can be expensive.

Thanks for the input Guy.. I have a friend or two with some Dubbed up Lexus's. I'll speak with them and get their perspective on the driving experiences around our area, I'm guessing atleast one if not both of them are ridding on 35's or 30's.. Again thanks for the input. BTW.. Whats next on your to do list.. It's looking good so far..

If you buy the correct offset wheels, you never need spacers! Far better to do it that way.

My pleasure and you're welcome pal. Remember, profile gets multiplied by tire width for overall sidewall height. Profile is a percentage. So if the tires are realy wide, then the sidewall gets bigger.

Next you say? Stainless Steel Shiny tips(4) to go with my shiny wheels and car. Then a wall between my subwoofer and the trunk to reduce rattling.

I have been listening to you and agree wholeheartedly. You spoke of scrub radius. Doing the math means go wider on your wheel to get more flush with the wheelwell while maintaining (as close as possible) the original factory offsets.

Buying aftermarket wheels and then subsequently using spacers is not the prefered route. Spacers add 3-4 pounds per wheel and introduce another element for vibrations.

Buy the correct offset from the get-go like SZ says...

07sport...

Looks great.. having just lowered my 45 on Tein HT's.. wheels are next.. I was speaking with my wheel guy who told me he love's vossen's for the price but warned me "do not curb those wheels".. sounds like simple advise but I've curbed most wheels i've had at least once.. and always had them buffed/fixed here locally. however, the vossen's he said have a stainless steel lip that "wrinkles" when you hit the curb, and does not fix easily. I'm sure your a much better driver than I, so you won't have to worry about that! Just be extra careful with that awesome setup. In regards to the above poster.. I love the vvs-085's too. and yes.. they will be in silver if i get them! hope all's well for you in the desert!Bill.

just want to add that the I too think those are the perfect sized tires for this car.. do you know off hand if a 285/30/20 can fit on a 10" rim or does it need a 10.5"?

I appreciate you looking out for me my newly lowered brotha . Some day I will "curb" my wheels. When that day comes I'll...well let's just say I'll improvise.

I think those VVS-085's are just gorgeous. I hate to say it, but you are going to put me to shame if and when you get those--well at least til a curb shows up.

Right now I pull up to the curb a great distance away(almost in the middle of the street therefore risking the whole rear end being smashed). Then back up utilizing my passenger side mirror that is tilted down. If this can't be accomplished, I simply go back home into the garage.

You are such the tease. Where are the lowerd pics? Be sure to hit me back before you cement the deal on wheels.

yes.. we all curb them at one time or the other.. the aluminum lips are easy to fix however.. believe me.. iv'e done my share of fixing. Your gonna have to give me a quick lesson on posting pic's..... i think on this forum you have to host the pic somewhere right? who do you use for that? also. what size do you load, your pic's are always the perfect size. man, i like the 82's and 85's.. i will give them a call.. maybe the 85 was designed to fit the bbk.

btw, i can tell you from the pic's you posted, the car's sit really close to the same.. i don't think the weight of the 45 made much difference.. now i have to find my before numbers... (i cleaned my desk the other day and can't find a thing!)

Wow...someone actually used their brain when making a decision on a set of wheels for their M....I must say the wheels look really good, its aggressive but at the same time clean and fits the M really well. I only worry about the sidewall height of the tires, if possible go with taller tires...it may make it look even more aggressive and protect the wheels better. I've seen some others with 20-22" wheels on this site that looks awful or looks like wheels that belong on a truck.

I appreciate the compliment but many on this board use their brains when it comes to wheels...unfortunetly(should use someone else's in some cases). But all kidding aside please don't worry about my sidewalls or their lack of.

Knowledge will lend itself to knowing the next jump is a BIG one(.5 inches). To keep the rear and fronts even we are talkin' 40 series in the front(unless I go to general tires). That contradicts my whole reasoning for going 20"--which is HANDLING. If you drove my car you would instantly understand ride quality meets handling.

By the way, I did actually try a taller tire and it looked like a truck and handled like one too(one with a Hotchkis kit)!

Besides, beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

...that will teach ya. It has been crazy my friend. I tried 245/40 with 275/35 and it looked awful and handled even worse(on Yoko's).

I took advantage of the 30 day trial and regrouped with the Falkens. Oh what a difference a day makes! These things so far kik major buttocks. And, I am no longer stretched (as previously discussed with maxnix) and the ride and handing are exceptional.

And the roads are made for driving...

Thank you.

With there being a 8.0" wide wheel in the front it technically would be out of Spec with a 255/35 unfortunetly. I really wish you had a 8.5" wide wheel in front to accomadate that tire size. So...

245/35/20 tire in the front

275/30/20 tire in the rear

Because the front wheel is narrow, your tire sizes are very limited. The aforementioned is one choice. The other is 245/40 fronts and 275/35 rears. Tell us/me your wheel offsets so we can help you determine the best situation for you. Feel free to PM/e-mail me at "[email protected]".

I have felt no tramlining. I am running 255/35 & 285/30. This gives me 3.5 inches of sidewall. Anymore on a 20 inch wheel looks kinda weird to me.

As a follow up I would discourage would be buyers of 8.0 inch wheels to not do so for these reasons...the wheel will be severly inside of the wheelwell if you're maintaining factory offsets and limited tire selection.
