Just had the Nav Hack done for my 2006 M35x. Very happy with the work, and it works great. Switch was installed under the arm rest inside the center console.

The work was done by Auto Image 16 Frelinghuysen Avenue, Somerville Circle, Raritan, New Jersey 08869.

I was charged for 2 hours work.

I am now having them install an Escort PASSPORT 9500ci

Would have to agree with Eric...
I am certainly no auto electronics whiz-I did it in 3 hours (I went really slow cuz' I didn't want to mess anything up) and used crimp connectors and not soldering--just in case I need to put things back to stock. Taking out all the screws and removing the glovebox was the hardest part. But if you do this hack, you can also change the in cabin air filter as well, because it's only another panel or two to remove, once the glovebox is taken out. I wasn't able to put the switch in the original place the guide suggested-I didn't have enough room, so I used the middle console area as well.

If you search Nav hack, you can find a good step-by-step guide to doing this with pictures and diagrams. I didn't use Cat 5 wiring like the guide suggest, I just made sure my wires were labeled correctly with colored tape to keep it all straight and organized.

I'm not an installer, I only work on my cars. I do big & small jobs, what -ever I can do. But I don't like to play with other people's cars.

but I'm willing to give you a hand (free help) on doing the DVD by-pass if your willing to come to my house.

all you need is the switch and the 2 small connectors that go to the switch, I have the rest. tools & wires.

I went to a stereo shop and was told $85 and they didn't know what had to be done. you can save that money by doing it yourself. use that money for another mod.

I haven't used the nav or dvd player much but I haven't seen any issues yet.

don't forget your only adding 1 NEG wire just to see the screen. this has nothing to do with the performance of the GPS. The weahter, clouds, rain, buildings, over passes and location all will effect the performane of the GPS.

now the other wire is being switched off in order to play the movie while driving. as long as this wire is connected your GPS work like normal. when you hit the switch and now the wire is broken your on the movie mode which will effect your GPS until you hit the switch again. then you have to let the GPS catch up by stopping at a red light or just pulling over to the side for about 5-10 seconds.

^^^ 06M4.5 What tools did you require for the mod? Did it essentially void your warranty? thanks.

Anytime! :yesnod

Be sure to check back if need any help or get stuck along any point. Also, try to be careful when pulling up the wood trim along the shifter and ashtray, the clips on front side of it can be easily broken if it's pull up too hard. Again, good luck!
Not sure I could do it..the instructions on here are very clear and looks doable by an amateur tech like me but I got a quote today by a local shop that did my friends g35 sedan and price was $45!! needles to say I jumped on it and got it scheduled for monday nov. 30! will let everyone know how it goes and post the number and location of the shop if all is good!! ;)

Just did this hack myself on my 08' m35x. I also went ahead and added aux composite inputs tapped in the center console aux inputs for when I add my DvD player. Overall its pretty easy once you follow instructions, it took me a couple of hours each days and three days of working on it but, I did all soldering I could outside of the car, I also shrink wrapped and electrical tapped everything down as well as used corrugated wire covering for added protection and discreteness. Over all, I'm happy with the work and my Navi tracks location fine. I'll have to check it over a longer distance to see if it lags any, just tested for about 3 miles tonight when I finished.
