 Long story... See bottom for Cliff's Notes:

I've spent the past day or so questioning my sanity after installing my ipod adapter.

I followed everything according to the instructions on the NICO tech page. Took the trunk liner out to get to the XM tuner, removed the entire back seat, fished the wire inside and thought "let me check this thing before I go tearing out the console". I ground the unit to the XM bracket, make all the connections, plug my ipod in, turn the car on... nothing. I hit the radio button several times and it never went to XM, which made me question if I have XM in my car or not. After scratching my head for a while I went and ordered the PA15-NIS and watched Dallas finish off OKC.

Before going to bed I decided to give it one last shot and took my manual with me. Turns out I forgot to set the dip switches properly. I went through the set up procedure, got everything working and went to sleep happy. Fortunately I didn't feel like putting my car back together so I left everything out. I canceled the NIS order first thing in the morning.

I got in the car this morning, the music cut back on for a few seconds, I thought everything was still good and suddenly all my presets reset and the radio switched back to XM. Assuming I did something wrong, I went through the setup again and it continued to work as it should

... until I turned the car off, then back on again. Everytime I started the car, I had to repeat to setup sequence. Knowing this can't be right, I called tech support to make sure I wasn't crazy. I explained the problem I was having and the first question he asks is: "Do all your radio presets get erased?"... "Yeah" ... He then tells me that there are some radios few and far between that "just don't work with our units" and reset the entire radio every time you remove the key. They are too sparce to troubleshoot so no one has figured out why. Unfortunately I have one of those radios and there's nothing they can do about it so this thing is now useless to me.

Just my luck, I bought it on ebay instead of crutchfield because I had some ebay bucks I figured I'd put to use. Anyway... I'll have a for sale thread in the classified section shortly.

Cliff's Notes:
USA Spec products "just don't work" on certain radios according to their tech support so I now have a PA15-INFI for sale. :frown:

Haha, I was thrilled when it was working :gotme

No way in hell I'm going through 6 presets every single time I get in the car.

Yeah that's dumb. It's also dumb that a very small percentage of radio's have this issue.

Maybe try the PA15-NIS after all?

By the way, go Heat :D

My uncle has a NIS in his Maxima that he's supposed to let me try but he hasn't felt like taking his radio back out again (and I don't blame him).

I was actually cheering for OKC :inout: I'm really just glad the Lakers lost. I want to see Jason Kidd get one before he hangs it up but Miami is playing well

Don't let me discourage you... just check the ebay seller's return policy. Crutchfield has free shipping but your refund would be minus actual shipping cost if you send it back.

More importantly... this is a very rare dilemma. I am just one of the unfortunate ones. It's like having some crazy medical disease that only House can solve. You should be fine, provided you buy the right unit for your radio.

Do you drive the M often? I see one every now and then and there aren't too many on the road.

Very interesting! I had the same experience after installing my PA15-INFI. It happened the first time I started my car and then again a day or 2 later. I thought I was losing my mind the first time my presets were cleared, but the second time I knew for sure that all my presets were lost and it wouldn't work.

I disconnected and reconnected everything and haven't had a problem since. I just assumed I made some mistake the first time I installed it, so who knows. For what it's worth, mine has been working reliably for a couple months.

I hate to report that I am having the same problem as the OP. It happens more often with certain devices than others; ie., my iPhone 4 will trigger the error every 2 or 3 restarts of the car, my old iPod Nano had the issue only a few times. I talked with "Joe" in tech support and got a similar answer to the one given the OP.

I have found that leaving the unit in Direct mode seems to defeat the problem; it is only in the mode where your control the iPod from the stereo controls that the error occurs.

I have the only black one with FAMU tags that I've seen. There is a silver one (sorry, I forgot the Infiniti paint code name lol) with chrome sport rims that I see pretty often too, usually at Quarterdeck.
