I've spent the past day or so questioning my sanity after installing my ipod adapter.
I followed everything according to the instructions on the NICO tech page. Took the trunk liner out to get to the XM tuner, removed the entire back seat, fished the wire inside and thought "let me check this thing before I go tearing out the console". I ground the unit to the XM bracket, make all the connections, plug my ipod in, turn the car on... nothing. I hit the radio button several times and it never went to XM, which made me question if I have XM in my car or not. After scratching my head for a while I went and ordered the PA15-NIS and watched Dallas finish off OKC.
Before going to bed I decided to give it one last shot and took my manual with me. Turns out I forgot to set the dip switches properly. I went through the set up procedure, got everything working and went to sleep happy. Fortunately I didn't feel like putting my car back together so I left everything out. I canceled the NIS order first thing in the morning.
I got in the car this morning, the music cut back on for a few seconds, I thought everything was still good and suddenly all my presets reset and the radio switched back to XM. Assuming I did something wrong, I went through the setup again and it continued to work as it should
... until I turned the car off, then back on again. Everytime I started the car, I had to repeat to setup sequence. Knowing this can't be right, I called tech support to make sure I wasn't crazy. I explained the problem I was having and the first question he asks is: "Do all your radio presets get erased?"... "Yeah" ... He then tells me that there are some radios few and far between that "just don't work with our units" and reset the entire radio every time you remove the key. They are too sparce to troubleshoot so no one has figured out why. Unfortunately I have one of those radios and there's nothing they can do about it so this thing is now useless to me.
Just my luck, I bought it on ebay instead of crutchfield because I had some ebay bucks I figured I'd put to use. Anyway... I'll have a for sale thread in the classified section shortly.
Cliff's Notes:
USA Spec products "just don't work" on certain radios according to their tech support so I now have a PA15-INFI for sale.
