Definitely read the stickies in this forum before you start to plan shipping the car to the States. It's not easy to do and it's getting less and less easy.

At the end of the day, they aren't legal to import into the U.S. nor are they legal to operate on public roads in the eyes of the Federal government. There are ways around the system, but those are frought with peril and might not be worth it for (no offense), a 16-year-old sedan.

Being in the military doesn't matter. The only thing the military will do for you is ship it as a POV. BUT...it still has to go through all the BS to get it through customs and the EPA stuffs.

I don't know all the ins and outs like Sean Morris, but I do know that it still doesn't make it legal to have the military ship it for you.

Sean is the guy to talk to if ya want the answers.

I was in the military 1991-1997. I am very aware of military protocall, and what people doing a PCS move can do. The military will pay to move your car, but its up to you to figure out if its legal at the other end.

The only real way for what you have, is when its over 25 years old.

You'll have to provide TMO with a RI contract in order to send anything newer then a 25 year old vehicle that's non-conforming. Bottom line is there's no RI that will take your shipment because it's not eligible for import.

Don't waste your time with taking the motor. You'll be better off sourcing a few RB26's plus other spare parts and tossing them in with your TMO shipment. USFJ is anal about auto parts in TMO shipments but other places are not so strict.
