Post

Some of you may remember me, i used to post on here a lot when i was 15 and 16. Not so much in after april when i wrecked my old s14. After deciding it wasnt worth it to fix it, i parted it out, and coped up a half assed SR swapped hatchback for $1500. By half assed i mean only the motor itself was swapped into the engine bay, and it was still missing a bunch of parts, and the car itself needed some work.

Heres my old s14. Got it as my first car when i was 16. All i did to it was a J30 vlsd, custom plush shift boot, 5 lug swap with 300zx TT wheels, tein lowering springs, and new speakers and head unit

I figured it was a great project since summer was coming up, and if i could do this in time i would have a boosted s13 somewhere in the beginning of the school year. This didnt end up happening since my mom and I moved from the house with the 2 car garage we were to an apartment.

heres some of the work thats been done over a slow process. Big thanks to my friend josh whos been helping me with pretty much all of this.

First thing i did when i got the car was strip the interior and find all the rust in the car, pull the engine out to change the ebay turbo with reversed oil lines to a low mile stock garrett t25, and repaint the engine bay.

After seeing how the engine bay came out without a buff or clear caot, and looking at the overall paint of the car, we decided to just sand down spraybomb the whole car for s***s ang giggles.

Looking back at it, i wish i would have just re done the bumpers and the roof, and left the rest of the car as the paint wasnt even that bad, and i learned how much of a PITA it is to paint a whole car. But atleast all my panels will be the same shade of white, and the paint will be "new" lol

This is only the base coat with the panels and hatch kinda mounted back on so the car doesnt look like a** while i focus on getting the motor back in, and have the car driveable. so this is nowear close to the final product.

Its being sanded again to get rid of major imperfections, wetsanded, and sprayed again with one or two more coats, both with a wet sand in between. After this ill do one last light wetsand, a nice buff, and a glaze.

I havnt decided if i want to clear coat it or not. Ive heard that spray can clear coat always comes out like s*** if you dont do it perfect, and the gloss enamel that im using doesnt look that bad without clear coat. Since its an enamel, it should hold up pretty well till i get a real paint job of a different color.

Tommarow im gonna finish prepping my rear bumper, primer it, and hit it with a coat of paint, so it doesnt look like a** from the back lol. While i wait for the paint to dry on the bumper, im replacing the stock blown struts and springs with some KYB GR2s with cut stocks that i picked up for $75. Im also gonna sit it on the wheels i traded my old 300zx tt wheels for.

There Drifz 520, 17x7 +45 up front and 17x9 +35 in the backYes i know they are going to sit like s***, which is why i picked up some hubcentric spacers. 25mm for the front and 15mm for the rear. Hopefully they sit flush or almost flush with these spacers.

Nothing special, but i needed 4 lug wheels and these had good tires on them. The wheels that are on it now are ugly as hell and the tires are dry rotted pretty bad, so im just going to spray them black or gunmetal and use them as my drift spares.

As far as what the car came with, and what it needs to get running...

It came with the SR itself and some basic parts, as well as an XTD stage 1 clutch and some piping for the intercooler. It came with a sidemount, but it wasnt even the stock side mount, nor did it have the stock piping, so i went ahead and bought a BMPC front mount and greddy knock off BOV all for $130.

the SR needed a bunch of random stuff like a CAS, a new crank pulley, an ignitor chip, thermostat, turbo elbow, water neck, belts, and other little stuff.

I got my hands on a few aftermarket parts for pretty cheap. I have a full turbo back exhaust (still need a test pipe)XS power divorced elbow, blitz 3 inch downpipe, and 3 inch apexi dual N1 catback

I got a walboro 255lph fuel pump, purple silicone radiator hoses, a proper SR radiator (not the KA one that was in there before lol), and im gonna replace the tension rods with the oem ones from my s14 that had like 7 months of use on them. Same with my J30 diff and my stereo.

Thats it for now (finally haha)Ill be updating this with pics regularly

Update time!

First things first...

Thats just the engine in there. We didnt bolt up the transmission with it because i need to pick up a throwout bearing and a pivot fork. Im gonna do so tommarow night or saturday morning, and throw the transmission in saturday afternoon

I picked up my ignitor chip and thermostat and all the parts i needed, so this thing will be running within the month.

Since the last update the rear bumper has finally been painted, and today me and my friends replaced the front struts with some KYBs with cut springs i picked up for cheap. The front sits a lot lower now

Before:

After:

Still sits a lil high, but this will do for now. This is without the 25mm spacers

As far as the rear, you can see in the before pics, the rears always sat low... i just assumed it was because they were blown to s*** and the fronts were rediculously high for whatever reason.

I took one of the struts off, and next to the KYB you could see the cut stock springs had way less coils than whatever was on the stock struts.

However i made the discovery that there might be some aftermarket springs in the rear on the stock struts. The first thing that grabbed my attention was when i wiped the dust off i saw they were dark purple. I decided to compare the two and compress them. The kybs on stock cut springs compressed fairly easyly, however the ones with the purple springs were stiff as f***! I put my whole body weight on them and they moved only about a millimeter

As far as i could see (didnt check thoroughly), there was no logo or anything on the springs, but i know stock springs aren't supposed to be purple. A quick google search for purple 240sx springs gave me the conclusion that they could either be intrax springs, tenzo, or some other random ebay brand.

So for now its going to stay jacked until saturday when i decide what im going to do with the springs. Im thinking about taking the purple springs and putting them on the KYBs, but i need to find out if the KYBs are blown since they were on cut springs for a year and they compressed so much easyer then the purple springs

Thats it for now, ill have better pics in the driveway on saturday or sunday when the transmission is in and i do something with the rear suspension

Im giving my self 4 weeks to get it running as i pretty much have all the parts i need now, minus some minor stuff. If i sell my 5 lug from the s14 tommarow i will have $300 to work with, which is more than enough to finish this.

This weekend is the transmission, suspension, and possibly change the brakes if i have time. The calipers on the car right now look like complete s***, and are probably frozen, so im just gonna use the brakes from my s14 if its possible, which im pretty sure it is.

The other thing id like to do is replace my tension rods with the ones from my s14. There only OEM replacements, but they are like a year old and are in great condition. I was going to do it the same way i did it on my s14, but somebody told me that the suspension needs to be loaded and it needs to be done on a lift otherwise youl mess up your bushings. Anyone know anything about this?

Next week during the week days im going to pull the car out, wash it, wet sand it completley, add another coat to the roof, and to the rear quarters and hatch. I would do more of the car, but i have like 2 cans of white left, and one can of black. Im worried about getting it running first before i keep spending money to make the paint nice. Im still debating wether i want to clear coat the roof or not.. i do have 2 full cans of duplicolor clear coat enamel.

Next weekend ill hook up the elbow and downpipe, pull the alternator out to test it while its still free and easy to access, and start with the intercooler piping.

weekends = getting motor togetherweekdays= cosmetics and other stuff

Looks like things are coming together, tho i could have painted that car (base and clear) for under 200. but eh.

do you still have your s14 5lug stuff??if so would u ship to SC??rear hubs and front spindle???

I still have the 5 lug but i dont have the spindles. I will do the 5 lug for $360 plus shipping but talk to me on aim tomarrow night we will work somthing out cheaper for you

as far as getting it paintied professionally for cheap, i could have waited but it was too late once i sanded the old paint off and started to primer it so i just went with it.

As of right now it still needs another coat on both quarter panels pretty badly, as well as the hatch and the hood. I only have 2 and a half cans of white so im just gonna finish the quarters and possibly the hood. Im gonna finish the roof too

Anyways some updates on the car

I did get the transmission in. We ended up just taking the engine back out to do it to make our lives a lot easyer. As of now both are in and the transmission is bolted with the crossmember to the car. I jacked the car up and im leaving it till i get a slave cylinder and a few bolts for the transmission that im missing

While its up in the air, i might get as well just replace the tension rods, brake calipers, and brake lines from my old s14 on to this one since they were all good, where as the ones on the s13 SUCK haha

I test fitted the spacers on the wheels and they look pretty damn good. The rears might have a slight bit of poke, but we will see once the car is dropped back on the floor.

no pics this time

Couldnt find the proper driveshaft bolts so in the mean time its held together by two random bolts and two zipties... yes i said zip ties and drive shaft in the same sentence

Heres the car on the ground with the new wheels. The rears are almost flush... the fronts could use some spacers, but im afraid of rubbing if i go with the 25mm up front... same with the rear if i put the 15mm since there already almost flush

I might just wait till i get some sway bars till i put the spacers on, cuz stock body roll is a b**** and im afraid rubbing and shredding my tires on the fenders every time i throw the car sideways or take a hard turn

I cleaned up and vaccumed the inside today, but it still has a long way to go

I might dye the carpet black in the mean time till i get a new one. Its kinda nasty and theres a few holes.. but well see what happens. S14 seats are going back up front, and im using my old s14 seats to replace the ugly tweed ones.

I still gotta get rid of some of that rust in the spare tire well and go over it in rustoleum. Thatl happen some time this week

thats it for now

Thanks dude. Im debating wether i even need to put spacers in the rear or not, i mean there basically flush, theres just mad fender gap.

The reason its such a decion is because even though the 15 spacers i have are hub-centric, there not the kind with the studs built on to them, you just slip them on, so i would have to replace the rear studs with extended studs

As far as the 25mm that i was planning on putting up front, there they type that have the studs built on, but i dont have the right kind of "low profile" lug nuts to bolt the spacers to the rotor and existing studs without the lugnut sticking out further than the spacer... so theres nothing i can really do about that for now

Do you guys think running the spacers all around will give me rubbing issues with my basically stock strut and spring setup as far as body roll goes? The springs up front are cut (bought em like that), and the rears are dropzone lowering springs

I appreciate any input
