I love my 2008 G37! Performs smoothly after this, it started idling a little rough, mentioned it to the dealership on a couple of service visits, they never said anything was wrong. Until....a" service engine soon" light came on and now it needs a new catalytic converter $1600.00. It had 82,000 miles when I mentioned it first, now it has 84,600 and the dealership said I have to talk with Infiniti customer care department to get it replaced under warranty. I slid a mirror under the carriage on the passenger side and saw a hole in the converter pipe?? I am not very savvy with auto repairs and read the dummies.com catalytic converter page, it was informational but what can I say to get it replaced under warranty?

Have you contacted Infiniti on the toll free number in your warranty booklet as the dealer mentioned to you?

Yes, the process said to contact the dealership management then dealership owner but my service advisor said my best option was to just call Infiniti Consumer Affairs. So I did, they put in a claim and I'm waiting for a call back since last Friday 5/8/15. Does it sound unreasonable for me to want them to cover it under warranty? Any special words I should use? I am not familiar with the industry lingo.

And.... I can't find in the correct Index listing in the FSM/G37/Coupe/2008 where the catalytic converter is covered.

You could install High Flow Cats. They are a bit louder than stock, and will add a few Horsepower.
Stillen has them for about $500.
They are a pain to install, but I would think any decent shop could do it for $300-$400
