Pure bolt ons with Intake, Header, Exhaust, Under Drive Pullies, Cams, Mid Pipe, and after market piggy back management will cost around $2k-$2.5k and you will make just under 200whp

a complete Turbo kit can cost (with installation) about $3k-$4k. alot of people make roughly 250-270whp on a good tune.

A VQ swap will cost about $5k-$6k depending on the cost of the motor. The Engine by itself makes 220whp. Then you have some room for mods which can cost again up to an additional $2k.

so in conclusion, while the VQ swap is fairly rare and sought after, it makes more monetary sense to just turbo unless you plan on modding the hell out of the VQ to make 350+ hp.

Really depends heavily on your goals and budget. What do you plan on using the car for?

well i got the car kinda abused, outside is clean, the spec v's abused mechanically,so either or i'm destined to get a swap then boost it,my goal with the se-r is to take it to circuit tracks every now and then for fun or drag.and to match whatever sports sedan in its class like the Mugen civic si that pushes 200hp stock...basically want a daily driver on roids..performance,performance,performance...on the budget aspect, let's just say i can save enough money fora swap in 3 months...if i want to...

Although the VQ does not weigh that much more than a QR it does add some weight something in the area of 40lbs (IIRC), so the car will feel slightly more nose heavy. I would research in an SR20DET swap.

The SR20DET would have to come from a Bluebird Sylphy. Typically a Red top engine. Those were FWD. IIRC it should bolt right into the Stock QR transmission but i would do some more research if i were you.

There are several different versions of the Transverse SR20. Blue Bird, Avenir (w10 or w11) and the GTiR motor. You can even build your own SR20VET which will make the most power out the choices above.

Tuning the exhaust piping alone will give about 6 hp. think what can be achieved with headers, proper intake etc. It makes good reliable power. But remember due to the stroke of the engine, the RPM is limited. It usually would not go above 6800. A lot of info is in the book - How to build performance NISSAN sport compacts, 1991-2006 by Sarah Forst.

The catback, probably not if you have a midpipe that gets to the right spot. Probably have to have a custom midpipe anyway, and the 6 is going to need more breathing room than the stock exhaust has to offer.

Search for member Trav4011 and get in touch with him about the swap. It's pretty intensive.

I've never been a huge fan of how the Stillen exhaust sounds, personally, but it's definitely a quality unit. The Apexi WS2 is nice. Fairly quiet, pretty good tone. Greddy also has an exhaust, as do a few smaller outfits including my personal favorite - BRM. Definitely a deeper, less buzzy tone than the others. I had one on my 2.0. Get in touch with AZHitman if you're interested in looking at that one as well.

Not sure where you're planning on ordering from, but be careful to avoid getting a knock-off (common problem on Ebay), especially of the Apexi.

adding a vq the weight is about the same as adding a turbo according to Travis a guy that does a lot of these swaps. It all depends on what you plan on doing with your car VQ is nice because It's NA power and you can run low 13s
