Well I got the seat belts out of a late 80's model nissan pulsar at the junk yard. I've never seen any write-ups on installing these particular belts into an s13, but everything looked like it would bolt up, and it did with minimal modification to the upper mounting bracket (see picture). Also I needed to use the buckle/button from the pulsar in order for the belt to buckle securely.

I referred to this article before installing: http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=215210

So i got it all installed and tested it out by tugging on it. The belt does not lock like its supposed to. The belt will lock when it is not bolted into the car. I also tested it while it was still in the original car at the junkyard and it locked up fine there. Am I missing something or doing something wrong?

Here is a pic of the seat belt assembly:

Here is a pic of the modified upper bracket:

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. And don't worry... I put the automatic belts back in. I'm not dumb enough to be drive around with nonfunctional seat belts.

Did you already try yanking on it very fast to test if it will lock up?

This is a bit hard to explain but; In you s13 compared to the pulsar it was pulled from, does the belt coast out MORE or LESS then when it was sitting in its stock spec in the pulsar? (very confusing i know)

On the inside of the seat assembly there is a balancing mechanism i believe, tho i am unsure of how it works.

Also looking at your modified bracket, for me it does not set easy. Meaning i would not recommend that type, or for that matter any type of modification like that when it comes to your seat belt or safety.

I will post pictures of my setup, it was of course more pricey but i was not willing to sacrifice safety.

180sx manual seat belts.

Fits like stock because it is stock, looks like stock because it is stock, safe like stock because it is stock, Price tag however for a used item is like buying it new from the dealer.

Hope something in this post helped.

One Love,

Ghasty

Yes, yanking on it very fast does not cause it to lock up.

What do you mean by "coast"? Do you mean how the stock mounting points line up as compared to each different car? (yea very confusing, lol)

I wouldn't think my bracket would be a safety issue. The upper tab is only bolted to the chassis with a little screw and only appears to help keep the seat belt mechanism aligned in the right position. I could be wrong but wouldn't any and all stress be put onto the 14mm bolt that mounts the lower most bracket to the chassis?

I also read somewhere that people sometimes run into this problem with the upper bracket with the s14 to s13 seat belt conversion too. I think it said that the belts have minor differences between the zenki and kouki models.

Well if I can't get this to work, its not a big deal if I have to toss them in the trash. Only paid $12 for the belts.

Nice set up... how much did it cost if you don't mind me asking?

Make sure the tensioner assembly is mounted at the exact same angle as the car it came out of. If it is tilted, the locking mechanism will not work properly.

/\/\/\/\- What he just said also, That bracket seems as if it would throw it off balance.

Pay no mind to the confusing question, sometimes i have trouble trying to somethings over the internet. My apologies.

And of course i do not mind you asking me how much i paid. It was 200+ shipping, A-pillars, B-pillars, Courtesy handle (Pansy Handle jk jk), Seat belts assemblies, And all hardware. Everything mounts up in stock positions and everything, IE: Holes and slots. Only problem is that seeing as how the courtesy handle is on the driver side (Because our cars are LHD) and the holes are not threaded for the hardware supplied. Therefor a tap/dye set is very nice when you get around to installing everything.

The handle after installation.

This is the bracket that holds the handle. The holes that you mount this part on are the ones that need to be threaded.

The last draw back to this setup is the gap it makes. Because as you probably figured out the automatic seat belts need room from the A-pillar to work so the A-pillars are mounted on brackets, which makes the USDM headliner cut shorter to accommodate for the space needed. Easy fix is to extend some fabric or just get a JDM headliner.

Oh and buy ALL my JDM stuff from Pandagarage

Thanks for all the info. I'll have to search for a picture of how the pulsar seatbelt assembly sits exactly. Or the next time I'm at the junk yard I'll just check the original car out. That will have to wait though because its so cold out.
