What do you guys think about getting dual exhaust on my 2000 nissan pathfinder, and roughly how much will it cost with parts and labor? I cant decide if I want to do that or get a 1-2" lift this summer. Please give me some thoughts on this etc.

Thanks!

Well, there's not much aftermarket support for the R50 Pathfinder.

I own a small custom exhaust fabricating shop (http://www.brmexhaust.com) and can give you some ideas on what works well for that car, though.

On my '97, I did a true dual with an X-pipe, dual Magnaflow resonators and small Magnaflow mufflers at the rear. Having it custom made will likely run you around $500, parts + labor.

You can save some money by having a larger Y-pipe made, into a 3" pipe with a single resonator and muffler.

It's a great upgrade, and will really perk up performance. The factory exhaust on those is dismal.

$500 is not too bad, and do you mind helping me out with where to buy the parts? I am not the most car savvy person on the block. I am trying to learn as much as I can, but a lot of the stuff you just told me sounded like a foreign language lol. Mind helping me out here?

Sure thing.

I'm kinda slammed with work tonight, but let me do some research on how the system is set up (stock) on that truck and I'll have a better idea.

Do you have a local shop in mind? Where are you located?

I am located in Nashville, TN. There are a few muffler shops that I have in mind.

Cool - Here's what you're working with:

Image

Option 1: Let's assume you stick with a "2-into-1" system, which is what you currently have. Ideally, you'll want the downpipes (blue) to be somewhat larger. Next, you'll want them to fabricate a Y-pipe (green) that merges the two pipes into a 3" collector, which will look like this:

Image

From there, I'd recommend a 3" diameter, 14" length Magnaflow resonator (where the current muffler is). The 3" piping would then continue back (replacing the pink pipe) to a 3" in / 3" out Magnaflow canister muffler.

Option 2: ALTERNATIVELY, you could maintain a true dual system. More expensive, but should make a little more power (and look awesome). Basically, both downpipes (blue) would dump into individual 2.25" - 2.5" pipes (replacing the Y-pipe). Then, an X-pipe, which looks like this:

Image

Off that, a pair of 2.5" diameter, 22" long Magnaflow resonators, then the 2.5" pipes would run over the axle and back to the rear, capped off with a pair of small Magnaflow canister mufflers, one on each side of the rear end... and of course, two pipes out the rear.

The shop should be able to price that out pretty accurately, then it's up to you to decide which route to take.

Hey AZ, it has been a while, but is the diagram you sent for the dual exhaust or the single? I am probably going to get this done next weekend. Thanks!
