Gentleman,

I do not know if this community is aware of the recent dash recall that is out. After getting the air bag replaced and my dash ruined because of it, I got a call 4 days ago from my local dealer and told me that a new dash was on its way, brought it in yesterday morning and by 6pm my 2006 M35 had a brand new dash installed.

They stated the this was a new recall from InfinityUSA
Check out your local dealer.

Nice! Thanks for sharing, it would definitely save us a lot.

*I was driving in to work this morning in my 2002 qx4 with 310,000 miles with that thread that Ilya linked above on my mind; thinking, "Man, look at this beautiful soft-touch dashboard. They sure don't make them like this anymore. No rips, cracks or squeaks after all this time."

Btw cfrankling, from what you know, is this recall for everybody or only those whose dashboards get damaged during airbag replacement?
And does the new dash feel or look any different than the old one to you?

Ed,

I have no idea if the recall is for everybody, but if I were you, I drop by the dealer and find out, you never know.
Regarding the new dash, it feels and looks, as far as I can tell (bought it used w 90k) exactly the same.

I love this car and with the new dash it looks beautiful, they don't make cars like the M's anymore. My son in law just purchase the Q50 and seriously, I like my M better, having said that, I wouldn't mind trading my M for the Q50-S though...lol.

Q50 = Gxx. Much cheaper overall package than an M (or Q70 as it's known now). I wouldn't expect the Q50 to look or feel as nice inside as your older M...it was a different class of car.

I'll be taking delivery of my 08 sport soon, so I plan to give it a thorough look when it gets here and then call the dealership with the laundry list of issues. They usually seem happier to share details when there's potential to get money from doing other work.
The place is quite a drive from my place so I might as well have them order my dashboard if they're doing the airbag recall.

What does it cost to buy and install a new dash for an '06 M35? Mine is cracking pretty bad as my mom always left it uncovered.

This is just one source, but their online catalog has the dash greyed out, no price on it. I assume they don't sell them, but they can def find one if need be.

I'll have to call the dealer to figure out if it's a recall for everybody or if this was the dealership just making right on damaging a dash.

My argument here is that dashboards shouldn't have to be covered to protect them. Manufacturers, including Nissan, had found ways to incorporate nice looking designs with good enough materials that didn't need a cover to freshen them up.
But infiniti had a rough patch where the FX SUVs had their dashboards bubbling, the Ms had them cracking. I'm not sure what step was skipped but it's like someone just pencil-whipped the Quality Assurance papers.

I will be adding an update to my air bag thread later today, but just to recap quickly .... I was on the line with Infiniti customer service (who, btw, are quite pleasant and a pleasure to speak with) and here is what I was told about the so-called "dash recall".
A new dash IS possible, BUT only under very limited situations.
The air bag replacement procedure requires that photos be taken at the dealership before work begins and then again after work is finished. If the photos clearly show NO damage, NO cracks or blemishes before work begins, AND the 'after' photos clearly show the dash was damaged as a result of work performed, it is "possible" that Infiniti will allow the dealership to order a new dash and arrange replacement when the new dash arrives.
However, this is done solely at the discretion of Infiniti and based solely on the photographic evidence submitted by the dealer. Photos taken by the owner will NOT be considered in this decision.
