I know this seems really mundane and basic, but has anybody ever bothered to lube locks and hinges? I got some lithium soap based grease (in an aerosol spray can) as the owner's manual states and will lubricate areas per the FSM. I'm not having any issues with squeaky hinges or doors, but it doesn't hurt to do I guess. I assume I need to clean off the old grease and then spray on some new?

would you paint over a dirty surface? id say same rule applies. How would new lube get to the hinge if old muddy dusty lube blocks it? I say clean it. I was looking at my hinges today too and it looks pretty grimey.... now that you mention it ill most likely tackle it with degreaser and clean it up.

Yep, figured as much. Just need to find some degreaser (might just try some dish soap :gapteeth:) and I'll be set!

Guess I can go pick some of that up, NAPA's only a short drive away. Probably'll work better, anyway.

works wonders on EVERY thing...... i clean my rims with it once in a while... but gotta be fast, cant let it dry. one wheel at a time. be surprised what kinda crap comes off em... even the rubber on the wheels too... gotta get the old tire shine out after a few applications.

Did this earlier today. Cleaned off any old grease using WD40, worked perfectly. I applied the aerosol grease liberally and wiped off excess. Didn't seem to have a marked improvement, but I was not having issues in the first place.

I also lubed up a buddy's 1991 Dodge Caravan van's locks, hinges, and door tracks and it solved a squeaky door hinge and made the sliding door smoother.
