V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

Ls1 240 Power Steering Issues

Postby neo240sx » Fri Jun 17, 2011 4:31 am

Ok I have an lsx swap in my s13. The stock rack went out shortly after I started racing it and while racing it felt like it had too much assist. I was good beforehand so I figured it was over flowing the rack. I made a restrictor (%50 smaller) and put it inline on the pumps high presure side. Then I got a new rack, went racing, and the same thing happened again. I was wondering is anybody else had this iproblem or knows the fix?
I'm changing racks, on racks, on racks!

I havent had any issues, but the pump does flow more and compress more so you may need to add a coolers to it.

So you think its the heat over the pressure? I know the daft crossmember I got removes the factory cooling lines. I really dont wanna add a ps cooler if I can get away with it. I read about cutting the pressure relief spring or swaping it out for a different one. What do you think about this?

How do you use the car? What kind of racing? A few guys drift them with underdrive, some use the reducer, every ls drifter I know uses a cooler.

I'm using the camaro pump. The lq stuff wont fit.
Lq is like a 6L ls6 same heads just more volume so it has less compression. (9.5:1) That and it weighs about 80lbs more.
On a good note blocks can be had for $800 shipped so I can spray away!

I know what it is... I have a few sitting in the garage for spares... paid 650 for one fully dressed with 31K, paid 350 for the shortblock with 90K..... but they have 317 heads not 243's they flow the same as the 243's but they are a 72cc chamber VS 65 so you yield a lower static compression.
