It’s been really cold in NYC lately and my car has developed an annoying loud squeaking sound when both wheels are compressed, like when going over a speed bump. The sound only seems to occur in road dips and when BOTH tires are compressed. Everything seems fine with the steering, and the struts seem firm when each wheel hits imperfections in the road. But this sound is driving me crazy! It sounds like my car is 30 years old.

Last year around the same time my car had a similar problem, the dealer replaced my sway bar bushings, and front stabilizer links under warranty. Now its back and I am really trying to avoid the dealer since my car is out of warranty. I have 72K miles right now, stock suspension. I would like to hear your knowledge on this issue and hopefully someone will steer me in the right direction as to what is needed, lubrication to the bushings? Is it possible for the bushings to crack and dry out in one short year? Could it be a ball joint? I guess I will wait some replies before I go to the dealer and face the hefty repair bill. Thanks!

You should find a good Nissan/Infiniti mechanic. Many independent shops will offer a complete diagnostic of the car with that cost (typically under $100) put towards work done that day. So, if you have anything else that might need to be done it would be worthwhile and they could get to the bottom of your suspension issue.
I actually trust the work done by the independent shops I use far more than any of the dealerships I have dealt with.

Indecently, I was drawn to this thread because I had a similar issue a few months ago. After a particularly cold night, my suspension made some awful sounds like I was riding a tractor or something..Not bad enough to stop driving, but annoying. Anyway, it went away after a couple days and hasn't been noticed by my mechanic.

/sorry for not having a real answer, but stay away from the dealer!!

I had the same kind of creaking going on recently in cold weather. My dealer, Pearson Infiniti, diagnosed it as coming from the sway bar bushings. It cost less than $100.00 to repair, which is the deductible on my Elite extended warranty. They also provided a loaner G37 for two days, so I thought the cost quite reasonable. Handling does feel better; we'll see if the creaking sound comes back.

Have they been salting or sanding the roads in your area because of wintry weather? I wonder if the ice melt stuff was causing the squeak and now the rain has washed it out . . .

Changed sway bar bushings they were in BAD shape, so i glad i did, but the squeak is still there although its less noticeable and doesnt happen on every bump like before. What else should i look at?

FYI, for anyone who has a Sears nearby...they do free diagnostics of the tires/brakes/suspension. At least the one here in Albany, NY does. I always go to them first before doing anything myself. Sometimes I agree with their assessment, sometimes I do not.
