1994 Q45T - Im a college student very mechanically inclined id say so but long story short my girl lost my one ane only key u know the big master one and I dont know how to get a replacement. I also saw q45 key fobs online dirt cheap and I want one programmed to my car. So two questions:

-do I need to take my VIN to the Infiniti dealership (stealership) and have a new one cut or can I remove a door lock cylinder or trunk lock and have a locksmith make me one to avoid high costs?

-Secondly if I bring in an ebay key fob to a dealership if I have to go that route with the key, can they program the iInfiniti key fob to work all options of my car?

Thanks so much for any help! Im stuck here!

Good luck finding an OEM uncut "infiniti" key. Best bet is the Ilco keys. I have a half dozen uncut somewhere. They are cheap so get a few. a FOB may or may not work with your car depending on if it had keyless installed. As a mechanical engineer you should have no issues programming it yourself

Im not a mechanical engineer. But thanks for the advice. So if I buybthat uncut key where would I get it cut at to match my door lock/trunk/and ignition lock cylinders?

And if I buy a infiniti q45 keyless entry key fob I can just follow the online instructions to make it connect to my car specifically? I see the key fobs all over ebay, any particular one I should buy or as long as it includes my model year ill be okay? Sorry for the n00bish questions but im stuck withiut a car to drive

Most locksmiths will be able to cut your key but without an original key you may have to use the stealership to get an original made. I've found a couple of locksmiths in Sacramento that can cut our keys.

When I owner my 94Q I bought a pair of remote fobs on ebay when both of my OEM fobs failed. I think I got 2 for $29 shipped. They worked the same as OEM but wouldn't roll down the windows when the door unlock button was held down for more than a few seconds. A minor inconvenience for the price. You'll be able to program them yourself using online instructions found on NICO or Q45.org.

If you're using the valet key, then they should be able to cut a new master based on that... Most good locksmiths can cut them - I think they're called "wafer" keys.

Several members have had great success with this guy:

McLock Locksmith
(864) 934-3411 or (864) 231-9671
E-mail: [email protected]

I have been told that he can do magical things, like cut keys from a faxed copy of your existing key - but I don't know if that's true or not...

The thing is i have NO key whatsoever, no master, no valet, no wallet key, NOTHING. it straight disappeared on me. i've seen uncut q45 keys on ebay, would it be cheaper to buy one of these, go to the dealership with my ebay bought blank q45 key and VIN number and have them cut it for me? or just go there with my VIN and have them make me one from scratch? I'll also buy a replacement key fob and have them activate it same time i get the key cut i just can't spend $200 on getting a new factory key made. any other ideas guys? Im so stuck here damn it.

like should i buy this unmade key
http://americankeysupply.com/index.php? ... ts_id=1909

then go see what infiniti charges me to cut it?

The dealers don't actually cut the keys there (I'm pretty sure), they go by the VIN number and they get them from somewhere else.. They just are able to order them.

In my opinion, you have 2 options... 1. Get a new key from Infiniti, 2. swap out an entire lock set from another car.

The latter would be a major pain but would cost you a bit less.

Called dealer and he asked if key has a transponder or something? Then he asked for my vin number which I didnt have on me. He said keys range from 35 $ to $200. Mine was all metal so I doubt it can be that expensive

Your Q does have the remote module. I think it's mounted under the rear deck. The stealership is going to charge you about $100 to program the fob. It's a pretty simple procedure and you should try it yourself first......

This information was taken from Infiniti service bulletins, and should save you the $75 it would cost to do it at your local dealer:

APPLIED VEHICLE(S): 1993-94 J30; 1993.5 G20; 1994 Q45

SERVICE PROCEDURE
While sitting inside the vehicle:
1. Open the trunk.
2. Close and lock all doors.
3. Insert and remove the key from the ignition six times within 10 seconds.
4. Manually unlock and lock driver's door once to enable "setting" mode.
5. Push lock button on the new remote controller once, just long enough to hear it beep, within 5 seconds of completing step 4.
6. If additional remotes are needed (up to 3), repeat steps 4 and 5 for each additional remote immediately after programming the first remote. (Note: a total of four (4) remotes can be programmed to function on the same vehicle).
For additional information, please refer to page BF-38 of the 1993 and 1994 J30 Service Manuals; page BF-17 of the 1993 G20 Service Manual Supplement; and page EL-148 of the 1994 Q45 Service Manual.

AvgQ45,

I ended up with your car this week. I'm not sure where it has been between when you owned it and when I got it. I've got new fuel injectors in it but it won't start due to security lock-out. Seems the key is not being recognized. I've only got one key and no fob. Did you ever fully solve your key problem? When you got rid of the car, did you provide both new keys and a fob to the new owner? Anything you can tell me about how you got your car running again?

Frank
