My 2004 Pathfinder started behaving strange, normal acceleration would cause the engine to rhythmically lose power.. the tach jumps back and forth between 1K and 4K RPMs. If I accelerate lightly, I can get up to 50/60 MPH no problem and the car is changing gears.. and it idles fine without any problems.. In Neutral I can floor it without any issues as well.. it's only in Drive that this happens. I didn't have a code at first so I couldn't figure out why this would be, finally a code came on tonight... P1131.. which from searching seems to be the Swirl Control Valve Control Solenoid.. Is this part consistent with the behavior I'm seeing?

Does this code mean I need to replace the valve? Or are there other possibilities? And what kind of repair bill am I looking at for this?

Anyone? I'm trying oto figure out if this is something I can repair myself, not sure where the part is located and can't find much about it. Anyone ever deal with this before?

Thanks! That does, I'll check out my lines tonight. Does anyone know where exactly the Swirl Control Valve Solenoid Valve is and what it looks like?

Page EC-498 of the factory service manual shows the position of the SCVSV.

After doing a ton of reading I wound up replacing my vacuum lines going to the SCV, as well as the SCV and the problem still exists... The second I hit 3000 RPM I lose power and drop to 1000, then it fluctuates back and forth between 1000 and 3000. I'm at a loss now... Any ideas?

I mentioned this in another thread but wanted to sum it up here as well to close this out. I replaced the SCV (part# 14596-1P101), replaced my vacuum lines just for the hell of it, and once the code was cleared everything was back to normal. I found out the hard way that simply replacing the part isn't enough, you MUST clear the code out for the symptoms to go away as the car was in some sort of limp mode.
