Got the usual yearly letter for the NAV map disc upgrade. I was very surprised at the price, $79.00!
Is it just me, or was the past cost of the upgrade $150.00? I seem to recall some $99.00 specials
here & there. In any event, having an early build 06' disc based nav map, might as well pull the trigger.

I wonder how long we can expect disc based map upgrades to be available, especially since (if I recall properly)
the NAV system was disc based for only 2 years! Did they go to HD NAV after 2007?

I have an 09 and mine is HDD so I reckon 07 was the final year for DVD based NAV.
And you're right. The lowest price I ever saw was $99. I wonder if the price drop is due to discontinuation of the DVD updates? Was that price for the 2016 / 2017 version?

I lost the offer letter but found the website. Your hunch is correct, it is for a 2015 version (7.10). No other update is offered for the 06/07 M.
I wonder if they are stopping at 2015?
Looks like they lowered the price on the later year HDD based M nav systems also!

With that, the install price from the dealer was $67. Might finally be worth the update, if for anything the convenience.

Received the updated DVD disc yesterday.
Installed it into the NAV DVD player in glovebox (2006 & 2007 M's).
All went well, booted right up.
I have not driven the car yet to verify, but when I plugged a destination into the system after the disc install,
it started the NAV process & displayed a map to my destination.

Hey Larz-I've been retired now x3 yrs and tooling around in my '13 RoadTrek 190P rather than the M. My 06 M35x still delights me tho, and so I just ordered the new CD. Thanks for the info.

Been quite a while since I posted. Did you miss me...

Indeed I have. I'm glad you're enjoying the pensioner's life! I would love to get a RoadTrek or similar. When Fetucini and I went browsing at the motor home show, she was quite pleased with the RoadTRek and the Leisure Serenity. Then she saw the Tiffin and Monaco diesel pushers and her eyes grew three sizes! It was near torture to get her to look at anything else after that, LOL.

Yes, those big, big, big diesel pushers are like dragging your home with you. But then, why get one, when you can just stay home and save the hassle and expense?

My class B has all the amenities; 3 way frig w/freezer, full toilet, king size bed/or two singles, shower, sink, two burner gas range, propane furnace, heat pump and a generator with ample storage for your stuff.

It drives like a Chevy van (it is a Chev Express Van) and you can take it anywhere and park it anywhere; not like those homes on wheels Fetucini thinks she'd like dragging around and being prohibited from parking and day trips here and there (once you're somewhere) because of the size, the driver ease of driving and lack of maneuverability.

The problem for non pensioners is that most still have kids home and a class B is just right for only two. You may have to wait a decade or two...

Actually it was you Steve who first posted the price drop. Thanx!

So far, from experience since '07 w/these nav updates, they lower the price of the previous year's to get rid of them, I guess, and then in Sep/Oct they release a new version.

I guess we won't know if they'll d/c the cd's until we see no new one towards the end of the year.

Navteq is no longer owned by its US parent firm, its been bought by Here, the makers of the old Nokia phone maps. This happened in 2011. I've purchased each new year since then w/out being aware or noticing any changes in the system. Now the Navteq site is down, and the Here site takes its place. I believe this just happened this year.

Does anyone have the new 7.10 map and is it any different than the previous maps (except of course for new roads added etc)?

Here is the Wikipedia link to the story of the change etc: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navteq

Hopefully they will continue the old paradigm of yearly updates in Sept/Oct for the year and nice reductions like this $79.00 US one in the early summer for the previous year.

Are you listening: "Oh Masters of Here..??!!"

yes, I was the OP of that thread, but I never take 15 minutes of fame away from Larz! It makes up for when he doesn't get it when he should!

I went from the original V7.01 to the latest 7.10 as we are discussing, but I have not yet used it enough to notice any difference.

Larz questioned the year of the NAV update offered on the website. It seems all the HDD based NAV updates offered are for 2016.
The only 2015 NAV updates offered on the HERE site are for the 2006/2007 models.
I think the Sept/Oct. "sale" (if they stay true to the previous way it was done) will be for the 2016 NAV updates, followed by the 2017 release.
If so, that puts the 2015 NAV disc update currently offered for the 2006 M's already 7 months behind...why are they not offering a 2016 NAV update at this point as they are for the later year Infiniti's?

Yes, I agree re Larz. He was always very helpful when I posted a lot a few yrs back.

Hey, I'm old, a pensioner now. Maybe I've got it wrong but if I remember right the new Sept/Oct was for the current year, not the new year upcoming.

If not-never mind...

I've been buyng a new disk every couple of years, but I think I've bought my last one. The maps on my iPhone include rerouting around traffic and I honestly can't remember the last time I used the built-in navigation system.

You bring up a good point. I have an Android and I use all off line Sygic, Co-Pilot, OsmAnd+ and Google Maps when I want to waste my data.

The interesting thing for me personally tho, is that with the '06 M35 nav system, I have yet (honestly) to go on a wild goose chase as I have with all my other above programs, except Google maps which I use rarely.

I have a '13 RoadTrek 190 P RV that is use a lot w/a Clarion Naviextras nav system. It is prone to goose chases and so I use my android a lot. There are times my android and the Clarion are both off and I'm wishing I was back in my M.

I'm hoping Here continues their updates. My M is still running strong after 10 years.

Again, oh masters of Here; hear my prayer: "Don't give up the ship!!!"

Unfortunately, 2015 was the last year NavTeq updated the DVD based NAV system in the M35/45. There will be no 2016+ updates. Seems the DVD system should be easier to update than a HDD system. I reckon NavTeq will follow the same as other tech companies and they will only support each system for so many years before moving on. It's similar to comp software. They support it for only so long, then you're supposed to just chuck it and buy new. But how do you chuck an amazing, beautiful M35 / 45 just because the NAV maps are from 2015? Especially if it has the deliciously brilliant bourbon leather!
I say YEH to those who use the android apps, etc and if you don't have that route open to you, get the 2015 and know that it will be fine for at least another few years depending on where you live and drive. Personally, I only update every 2 years because I reckon it takes at least that long before the lady behind the screen tells me to turn left into a canal.
