I came across some info after a lot of research on knock sensors. One thing I discovered, is its actually made by Hitachi- original OEN Part! In doing my search, I bought a pair, with the harnesses for $150 +/- a bit of change. Just thought I would pass that info on to everyone here. So you can get the exact part that Infiniti purchases for thier cars, minus their markup! That's way better than $195 thru the Infiniti "Wholesale" distributer! Merry Christmas all! Lol! :naughty:

The only reason is peace of mind that you're actually getting an OEM part vs. a knock-off. Some of the ebay factory specials have been shown to be counterfeit. If you're buying Hitachi from a legitimate supplier, you'll probably be ok.

Just a bit of clarification. Infiniti and/ or Nissan, buys some parts from certain manufactures. Knock sensors in the both of these vehicle manufactures are actually Hitachi brand. They simply repackaged them in a nice little box that says Infiniti/ or Nissan genuine part. When in fact, you are purchasing a rebadged box. These are the facts I found from a reliable source. Stated plain enough- the Hitachi IS THE ACTUAL OEM PART for both Nissan and Infiniti.
So in a nut shell.... If you want the original OEM Part, buy the Hitachi. Just without the dealership markup on the exact same part, minus the rebadged box.
To all: have a good day! :chuckle:

I agree with you... as long as you're buying from a reliable vendor and know that you're buying a genuine Hitachi part. It sounds like that's what you did. What I would avoid is $50 sensors on eBay represented as OEM.

Yes,No,Maybe? We will never know for sure? If you look closely at a genuine Nissan branded knock sensor,it has the nissan logo/name molded right into the plastic body of the knock sensor during manufacturing,so even if hitachi or jecs actually manufacturers the part along with making their own branded sensors, we really dont know if the part they make and stamp nissan is made to a different standard, quality,or specification than their other, similar looking- non nissan branded part.

Yes, and the point is, counterfeit parts are made to look just like OEM supplier parts. Provenance is everything, and sometimes good retailers get fooled.

Yes that's the plan, I'm going to bring her back to pristine running condition then tackle the cosmetics(only a little rust on rear wheel wells & small clear coat peel area on a fender) .

It's actually throwing codes for the Knock & Vehicle Speed sensor, I plan on having them all done @ once.

I feel kind of bad I got this gem then neglected her for a new flame, a mint condition white onyx Jaguar XJ8L lol now the Jag's gone but ol' faithful's still there with open arms lol.

so the 60 bucks I paid for both OEM badged knock sensors are below "genuine OEM" quality?

Maybe so, and maybe not. That's the whole kicker about non-dealer channels for parts. They could be plastic with a resistor and some sand in there, or they could be exactly what you'd buy at your dealer's parts counter.

Or, they could be sensors that are more-or-less functional, but didn't meet one or more of Nissan's specs.

If you're replacing a part that requires a lot of time and labor, any difference in what the part cost becomes a lot less important.

A $60 sensor that fails in 6 months (and requires 5 hours of shop time to replace) is a LOT more expensive than a $150 sensor that lasts for 6 years.

ok thanks, I might as well purchase genuine Hitachi knock sensors and just keep them in case, I purchased harnesses off of ebay which didn't make sense to me, oh well, mines are still in good condition
