The knock sensor is not critical to whether the car runs or not. If you disconnect your sensor the car will still run just fine, except it will get significantly lower gas mileage and performance.

The flat rate book tells you it takes 4 hours. It only takes me 15 minutes.

I pull out the upper half of the air box in order to get a good look at it. I then use about 18" of extensions and a 12mm swivel socket to remove the bolt.

+1

Beats the hell out of 4 hours of labor intensive work.

This scares me, what do i use to snug it down? by hand or with a torque wrench?Tighten the knock sensor bolt by hand, until the it is snug. I had just enough room to get a wrench on the bolt and tighten it. If you over tighten, the knock sensor will be VERY sensitive, and if you under tighten the knock sensor will not se sensitive enough. The factory spec is 15-20 foot-lbs

The problem is that the sensor is very senstive, so how much power to tighten the sensor is very crucial. However how do I know? Do I have to buy a gauge to estimate tightness? or do you guys have any know-how?Thanks.

Hand tight with the ratchet will work just fine.

Just tighten it about as much as you would a spark plug. Put a little effort behind the wrench when tightening, but not an extreme amount.

I did today. It was less than 30min with sending ground lines.Just take it off and put the brand new one on. That's it.

However I feel the gas mileage to be getting worse after changing knock sensor, it just feel though.I don't know why...Thanks.

OUCH!!! My hands look like I tangled w/ a herd of rabid cats! The worst part was getting the thing back in there. Every time I tried to turn the bolt, I rubbed my thumb knuckle on a very sharp piece of metal...

It was my first venture into the engine compartment of my '96 I30, so it took me a bit longer that I think it would if I'd been there before. I took out the whole attachment of the air box that's on top of the air filter to the intake manifold so I could get some leverage on the ratchet. All told, about an hour, minus the trips back and forth to the garage for additional tools. I used a 3/8 ratchet w/ a 6 in extension, into a 1/4 adapter, into another 6 in extension, into a universal swivel adapter, into a 6 point 12mm socket.

Used the ODBII reader to kill the P325 code, drives great, no codes!

Did you have to remove the Plenum and Intake Manifold to do this?
