posted this in online mech... but maybe ... possibly some one here has gone through the same thing or can help

i just finished the SR swap and relocated the battery to the trunk.... i made sure everything was grounded well... to the best of my knowledge

i sit down then before i even try to start it i look at the clock it wasn't on like it should be ??? then i tried starting the car... all that happened was the fuel pump turned on then off like it should... i tried my head lights... they turned on except they wouldn't go up or down

so i checked out the fuse box and i found that my 75 amp alternator fuse was blown... so i searched all the auto stores around and couldn't find one so i went to my local nissan dealer and bought one for $14.82

then i plug that in and it blew rite when i plugged it in ??? so i swapped the alternator with my KA24DE one ...did the pulley and all... plugged it back in ... realized i had another 75amp fuse laying around somewhere... grabbed that plugged that one in and it blew up in between my fingers

so i searched nico and found that there is one guy who had the same problem but on an rb swap ... but his car ran and mine didn't even get to yet... then i started searching everywhere else i could try on the net and found nothing

so i decided to make a threadyoure words of wisdom are much appreciatedthanks for any help

A blown resistor tisk tisk tisk. Get an ohm meter, disconnect the battery and check for shorts

I had the same problem on my 89 hatch. I inspected all the wiring on the lower harness, behind the battery and behind the alternator all the way to the transmission and finally found where some wires had melted together. instead of 75 amps going through the fuse it was 12 volts. Also I had to replace my alternator because it also was shorted.

i got a brand new dealer alternator and dropped that in, no fuse popping now but man, the electrical has a mind of its own now. i recommend checking all wiring harnesses for shorts and frays.... dont allow a fire!.

found out what it was ... it was blowing the fuse because the power cable was grounding... there is this plastic piece that kept the inner bolt from touching the caseing of the alternator ... stupid me while swapping alternators i saw that the SR alternator didnt have it so why should the KA one have it on while going into the SR ... well now i know why... ... car still wont start... but at least i gots the power on now i could get some real troubleshooting done tommorrow so it could finally run again... thanks again guys for the help

Before you replaced the fuse, did your electronics stop working? My speedometer, tachometer, wipers, blinkers and radio are not working. People have said the same happened to them, and it was the75a alternator fuse and once replaced everything worked. Is that your case as well? :wtf2:
