I borrowed a crane scale from work and weighed my engines. I was pleasantly surprised with the numbers.

KA24DE - 540 lbs-Complete engine/5spd tranny-No power steering pump-No air conditioning compressor-Dry

RB20DET - 584 lbs -Complete engine/5spd tranny-No power steering pump-No air conditioning compressor-Dry

That's a whopping 44 pounds difference .

Edit: A mod should change the title to "weight" instead of "weighed". I doubt "weighed" is a common search term .

You're my frickin hero.

I've been wondering this for a very long time, and I was totally going to budget in a scale before putting my motor back in so I can finally know.

I know I dropped more than 40 lbs when doing my RB swap with all the emissions and AC stuff I ditched.

Great great news!

Thanks!-Max

Very nice. Now someone needs to weigh a RB25 w/ RB25 trans to compare to a KA24 and KA 5 Speed.

Forgot to mention both were 5 speed.

Ill bet the rb25 is quite a bit more due to the tranny.

The extra weight of the tranny shouldn't hurt the car's balance due to it being pretty much centered behind the front wheels. Supposedly the Z32 TT trans is about the same if you wanted to cross reference the weight of an RB25 trans. I remember lugging around an old Z32tt trans around the shop a while back by myself, and it wasn't so bad. It felt maybe 25-30lbs more then a KA trans that I lugged around right after.

Dimensional weight. They may be similar but more than the 40lb difference sits infront of the front axle centerline. It's still nice to see them compared.

if you add the weight of a turbo on the ka, they are essentially the same weight. Always been a fan of the 20

good info :dblthumb:
